What BestPlaces Users Say about Tucson

Tucson, Arizona is a city located in the southern region of the state, known for its vibrant arts and culture scene, beautiful desert landscapes, and warm weather. It is also home to the University of Arizona and has a growing economy. With its unique characteristics, many people have chosen to call Tucson their home. To gain a better understanding of what it's like to live in Tucson, we will summarize and include excerpts from various user reviews on BestPlaces.net.

According to user "Rachel O.", who has lived in Tucson for 6 years, "Living in Tucson is like living in a colorful and diverse community. The people are friendly and welcoming, and there's always something to do, whether it's exploring the downtown area or hiking in the nearby mountains." This sentiment is echoed by user "Sammy G.", who has been a resident for 10 years, stating that "Tucson has a small-town feel with all the amenities of a big city. It's a great place to raise a family with plenty of parks and family-friendly events."

While many enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of Tucson, there are also some challenges that come with living in the desert. The food scene is amazing, and there are so many outdoor activities to enjoy. Plus, the sunsets are simply breathtaking." One horse town !!! - 6/12/2007
Any body thinking about moving to Tucson, think about it before you come here
it is not paradise like alot of people think, yea we don't have bad winters but we have alot of other serious problems in the one horse town!

Are summmers are very long and not much rain. The native's and the chamber of commerence say the HOT summers are only for three months that is not true, it is more like six months. I have lived here more than 30 years and I can not wait to get out of here. House's are expensive, wages are down, the the roads in the town leave something to be desired. During rush hour the commute from the eastside to the northwest takes a good hour or so,the traffic is bad in the whole town it sucks. the roads are not big enough to handle the traffic. The interstate is always under construction, they never seen to get it right. Not enough money we are spending it on the illegal ailen's I guess.
Anybody that moves here better know spanish to get a job it seems that Read More

It grows on you - 5/27/2007
360 days a year the sun is shining in Tucson. Our average temperature is between 65 and 85. It cools down between 15 and 30 degrees at night making the summer days ( up to 110) just bareable. People will tell you "its a dry heat" well, stick your head in an oven, that is also a dry heat! The truth is though if you make it through your first summer you will never leave. The sun is an addiction and i cant live with out it Read More

Climate is great BUT - 5/23/2007
Wen I moved here in 2000, I thought Tucson was wonderful. The climate is first rate even the summers, which are more of a blast furnace than summer.
But aside from the climate, Tucson is stuck in a small townmentality. With 1.2 million reisdents, the powers that be still think the town is 250,000. The freeways are being ripped up for the next 3 years, street traffic is a bad as Los Angeles, drivers are the worst I've ever seen and I have seen drivers all over the world plus you have all the old fols who still think they can drive (by old I mean 80+) and present a real hazard. The add the Mexicans who don't read or speak English and its a mess.
Crime is rampant, car insurance is very expensive( Tucson is #1 in the country for auto theft)hosing is less afforadable than 6 years ago- lots of building here as well. Plus, Tucson is 60 miles form the border, so we have all those problems as well. Water is becoming scare each year.
While you can't run from problems as its Read More

Living in the Ol' Pueblo - 5/16/2007
Living in Tucson, frequently referred to as the 'ol' pueblo', offers a wide variety of experiences. Many artists and thus galleries are located here and twice a year artists open their studios for visitors to learn more about the artists. If outdoor recreation is your interest, residents and visitors have several golf courses, both public and private, to choose from. Runners, bladers and bicyclists can exercise on the Rillito Path, a 10 mile paved river path that cuts east to west along the dry Rillito riverbed. And, finally, if photography is your passion you will not want to miss a summer monsoon in the ol' pueblo known for their spectacular lightening displays! The weather is perfect October to May and then the dry heat kicks in starting in Read More

I've lived in MANY cities - 3/8/2007
I've lived in Cleveland, L.A, San Diego, San Antonio, Dallas and Wshington,D.C. I graduated from the University of Arizona in Tucson. After living in D.C for 15 years I decided to return to Tucson. I live in the foothills ( with no M.D. after my name).Yes the city has crime(what city doesn't), yes we have no freeways and drivers are rude, and the area is bursting at the seams. But we have THE BEST CLIMATE in the country. I love the summers(sans snow birds, students and weenies who can't take the heat). Cost of living is reasonable, medical care is outstanding, great university and wonderful Read More

I wouldn't move here - 3/7/2007
I have lived here my entire life so I dont know much about other cities but I know there is better places than Tucson. The crime here is awful, yes I've never been robbed raped or shot but its been close. I have been afraid for my life many times here, i've been threatened that my house will be bombed, and much much worse that weren't just threats. Drugs is a major problem here at least 98% of people I know have admitted doing at least marijuana and at least 85% have done worse. One of the other comments said Marana is a good place its not, the schools there are full of drugs, alot worse than here. The drivers are crazy I have almost been hit many times. The education could be better but its only bad because a lack of funding, I think. It gets so hot here, I hate that. Most people here are poor, but for the super poor there is a lot of help. There are some good things here like the help for the poor and that most people are friendly and usually grow to be like family. There is alot of Read More

Air Pollution - 2/3/2007
It seems that the air is extremely polluted. Is the pollution ozone and automobile exhaust or just dust? Is the pollution worst in the winter due to temperature inversion? Thanks for helping me understand Read More

Crime is High - 1/27/2007
Tucson has a pretty bad problem with crimes related to drug trafficking. Even in neighborhoods that look really nice, there can be drug stash houses and lots of associated activity. If you must relocate here, it's best to rent first and REALLY check out the neighborhood where you plan to Read More

Crime in Tucson - 1/1/2007
Moved here 2 years ago, purchased a brand new home in a new residential community, have had my car broken into, my kids bikes stolen, a bench stolen from the front of the year, and light fixtures taken, yes the light fixtutes taken! other neighgbors have had their houses broken into.. it's so sad, nice house, very nice looking community, but does not feel safe due the high amount of crime, people are so petty enough to remove light fixtures, take plants and pottery from people's houses. It's Read More
