Making Jonesboro a better place to live - 5/27/2014
Ashamed of Jonesboro! I was born and raised there back in the late 70's and 80's We never heard of killings, not much of drugs, we were able to play outside, Nettleton was the best part of the area to live in. I was young but I remember when Jonesboro had a JCPenny's with wood floors, and Caraway had only 3-5 restaurants, The Kettle and a few more. Jonesboro was a decent place to live back in my day. However over the past 25 years it's changed so much with crime, drugs and thugs and I blame it on "The Landlords" Most don't care who they rent to, I personally managed some apartments, homes back in 2006-2009 as I moved up North in 1989, I came back due to my fathers and mothers health, with my youngest daughter (age 11 at the time)she attended the same school I did which was Nettleton. I feared my daughters safety as Jonesboro isn't a place to call home anymore. After losing both parents in 07 and 09 I again moved, gave up my job due to fear of my soon to be a teenager and the Read More

Definitely not where I'll spend MY life..... - 1/10/2013
I have lived in Jonesboro for a little over a year now. I'm originally from SW Michigan, so I've got a lot to compare and contrast, having come from a completely different place.

I'll start with the negatives:
Taxes - I came from 6% general sales tax and no grocery tax, so this 8.5% general and 4% grocery kills me. It may not sound like a big difference, but it sure seems like it to me. Also the personal property taxes blew me away. We didn't have that up north so to me it REALLY sucks. Which brings us to license plate renewals.......I had such a time registering my vehicle last year! I had to go to the Revenue office (I'm used to Secretary of State) 3 times because each time they told me something different that I'd need. I'm still paying on my car, so that was one roadblock. My dad co-signed and he was still in Michigan, that was another roadblock. Ended up having to send my title to Little Rock then I had to get the bank to fax them a letter authorizing them to Read More

Then Move - 2/12/2010
I hate to tell you people, but I have lived in 4 different states, some cities I have lived in had a population of approximately 200,000 people and it was NO different that living here. I can honestly say that I will never move again. There is crime everywhere. There are the same types or restaurants everywhere. If you hate it so bad, then just move. I for one love it here, and will never leave again. I've learned my Read More

City of this size should have more to offer - 6/4/2009
I have lived in Jonesboro for about 13 years and have been ready to move for the last 5. I came here originally to attend ASU and I did that as planned and earned a degree. I did obtain an excellent job upon graduation and for a positive I will say Jonesboro has held pretty strong economically. Thus, the reason I haven't left yet. On the downside, the town is unbelievably conservative, primarily Baptist Republican and sorry to say, but there is heavy oppression here. If you are different in any way, whether it's race, culture, religion, etc. you may not feel welcome here. The Baptists rule the town and have been fighting the wet/dry county issue for as long as I remember. In recent years, we did get a better mall and a few restaurants that are decent and not chain, but this town has little offer in terms of true diversity and recreation. We have a pathetic little water play area in a fairly nice park, and a dried up bowling alley and skate rink. A few night clubs that you will Read More

Jonesboro is getting worse! - 4/11/2009
Jonesboro lacks good places to eat, entertainment, and cultural assets. Now, I know this is a small town, but I have been around, and this place deffinitly lacks. Also, traffic is getting bad and crime is getting worse. The whole north side of the city is nothing but a huge hood with gangs. I work for HUD in Jonesboro and im disgusted about how bad this part of town has gotten, we are such a small city you think we'd be able to curb that type of Read More

Big Triangle - 3/3/2009
If you connect Little Rock, Memphis, and St. Louis with a triangle, Jonesboro is the largest city(population size) inside that triangle. just thought that was neat and should share it. hope the makes you happy just like it did Read More

All of the Good...none of the bad! - 8/7/2008
Jonesboro is a wonderful place to live. You have all the amenities of the big city...restaurants, shopping, entertainment...but none of the bad...crime, traffic, etc.

The cost of living here is phenomenal and the weather is really great. Yes, it gets hot...but not so hot too often. You are within 45 minutes of a major city, Memphis, TN, but none of us seem to need to go there as we have everything you could want right here at Read More
