La Mesa and San Diego - Then and Now - 11/10/2019
I now live in Wyoming but I was a third generation San Diegan, my maternal grandmother having been born on Coronado Island in 1894. If you are a new arrival to the area, I can see the appeal. Great weather, proximity to outdoor activities as well as theaters, museums and other cultural offerings you'd expect in a big city are all to be found within a fifty mile radius. What's not to love? My frame of reference is different. I grew up in La Mesa when our nearest neighbor was a quarter to half mile away. Our house no longer exists. It was replaced by a turn signal surrounded by businesses, houses and condos that you couldn't fit a piece of paper between. When I grew up here, you could drive from La Mesa to downtown San Diego and all you would see were the dairy farms that sat on the north side of Interstate 8. I'm glad that I experienced it when I did. People coming to this are who don't have my experience will likely find it a good place to live. For me, there are just too Read More

Great Place to Live - 5/28/2011
La Mesa is wonderful, not too overprice, considering you are a little farther east than the actual city of San Diego, but still super close to a lot of attractions in the area including the beach, Zoo, Seaworld, Wild Animal Park, LA, Legoland, PB scene for going out with friends, a nice small downtown with a lot to do at night and choices for eating, international airport. Any and everything you could possible want in a place can be found within 8 miles of La Mesa. Good choice to live if you are in the Read More

La Jolla Greenery. - 11/21/2010
La Jolla, California has some rare greenery; they have Torrey Pine trees, adn are the only part of the U.S. that does. Some areas of the grass are well landscaped, perfectly gree. The place has a lot of hype about being the best place in the U.S. to live, but it's good for family's with the educational system,a big part being UCSD. The hospitals are great, and A+; the Scripp's system if excellent being a Magnet Read More

Amazing amenities, but at a price - 4/19/2009
San Diego county has almost anything one could want in a reasonable proximity. Outdoor activities like hiking, biking, running, swimming, snorkeling, and even surfing are within a 50 mile radius. La Mesa is a centrally located area of east county, with proximtiy to downtown, far east county, and the coast. The cost of living seems very high here, and the density is high so even though we are a suburb of San Diego, it feels very urban, with ever present sounds of traffic, airplanes, trains, and helicopters that remind you that you live in an urban Read More

family and mall oriented with cute downtown - 11/21/2006
La Mesa is the first city located east of San Diego proper It is bisected by interstate 8 and State Routes 125 and 94 run close to the borders. There are 2 zip codes: 91941, which is south of Interstate 8, has lots of older homes including bungalows and has the downtown area; and 91942, north of the 8, which has more ranch homes, the hospital and the mall. Downtown La Mesa is a cute walkable antiques row with cafes and the main trolley stop with some condos. Downtown hosts the annual Octoberfest and the 50's classic car expo in the summer. 91942 is very family oriented with its many ranch homes and consists of the Mount Helix, Grossmont and Fletcher Hills area. Grossmont Center Mall, which has some large shopping areas adjacent is located next to Grossmont Hospital. There are lots of apartments and new condos here too. Because San Diego County does not have any county hospitals, Grossmont takes on a large share of the counties noninsured- especially in its large busy emergency room. Read More
