Been here 30 years - 5/14/2007
Moved to San Diego 30 years ago as a single parent. Six months later I was ready to move back. I never did, but often think about how it would have been. I came from Massachusetts and still miss the people the ocean on the Mass. coast, so different than the cold water here and the endless miles of just wide beach, not much variety. All in all you have to have a very good income or two to live comfortable here, considering the high cost of housing. The air quality is mediocre, the commutes are horrendous. On the plus side, If you are a year round sports fanatic, you would probably like the opportunities

It's called a Lifestyle???????????????????? - 5/14/2007
I have lived in the San Diego for 7 years. I have heard time and time again about that "great San Diego lifestyle". After 7 years I still do not get it...what is so great about working 40 hours a week and commuting for 15 hours stuck in traffic??? The cost of living is high and the wages are fairly low. Need I say more??? Calgon...take me away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did I say the people are smug, too????? I also think the weather is

The locals - 4/23/2007
Native San Diegans are for the most part pretty laid back and cool with you as long as you aren't some kind of kook. They generally treat you better than most other people treat Californians when they're in other states. And I'll think you'll find a lot of the idiots out here are from somewhere

Been here 6 yrs. from cold MN but ready to leave S - 4/13/2007
Everyone brags about the weather in San Diego but personally I like four seasons. I think the more extreme weather can add depth to one's personality and character. Also, there are so many "transplants" here that there is no feeling of community, neighborhood, or real long-lasting friendship. I wouldn't feel so compelled to write but many of my graduate school friends feel the same way. We are starting businesses and the ones staying here are stuggling while the ones who left and have moved on to greener pastures have been much more successful. It is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE here and you can't even get a livable home with a yard unless you want an hour-and-a-half commute. With population growing all commutes are going to get worse and worse. Also the city feels like an overgrown small town with all the hassles of the city but not much real cultural benefit of a city. I like the ocean but how often do I get to see it? I'm stuck in traffic on weekends (and that is so much fun) and I

MEXICANS EVERYWHERE! - 3/23/2007
I have lived in San Diego my whole life. I am 26 now. Througout my years i have seen more and more hispanics move to our city. I have seen people post here saying that they did not see many hispanics. Where were you at? I live in El cajon and i am surrounded by mexican families, resturants, markets etc. We are very much a diverse city. Take a look at the local library the walls are adorned with paitings of latinos and muslims. But i have yet to find a paiting there of any caucasion people like say Lincoln or any past presidents or leaders. Most people here are not racists, as a matter of fact this community does much more to help hispanics and muslims, etc then it ever does for the average white man or

The Good and the Bad - 2/6/2007
The Good: great weather; beautiful topography of bay, ocean, mountains, etc.; some beautiful older neighborhoods with lots of trees and craftsman and Spanish-style homes around Balboa Park, many things to do without driving too far, okay parking situation, great restaurants in Hillcrest and downtown, people who appear to be friendly, big choice of beaches, many distinct neighborhoods with different looks, lifestyles, etc. If you like cafes and restaurants with outdoor seating, San Diego has a lot to offer. Smokers are more unwelcome by the year, but I've seen worse in terms of smoking police (I smoke.)
Neighborhoods around Balboa Park are walkable, with their own little shopping and restaurant areas. Unlike Santa Barbara, which faces south, San Diego faces west which makes for spectacular sunsets. Great neighborhoods include Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, La Jolla, Point Loma, Little Italy (north of downtown, along the bayfront), Hillcrest, Mission Hills,
