What BestPlaces Users Say about San Francisco
San Francisco, California is a popular city known for its diverse culture, hilly landscapes, and booming tech industry. It is also known for its high cost of living, traffic congestion, and homelessness issues. Many people from different backgrounds and walks of life choose to call San Francisco home. Here are four excerpts from user reviews on the website Best Places, giving insight into what it's like to live in San Francisco.
1. "I've been living in San Francisco for over a decade and I have to say, it's an incredible place to call home. The city is vibrant and diverse, and there's always something to do. However, the cost of living is quite high and the traffic can be a nightmare. But overall, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. - Samantha H."
2. "I moved to San Francisco for a job opportunity and I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, the city is beautiful and there are so many amazing restaurants and activities. But on the other hand, the cost of living is outrageous and the homeless population is overwhelming. It's definitely not the easiest place to live, but there's a certain charm to it. - Marcus B."
3. "I've lived in San Francisco my entire life and I have to say, the city has changed drastically. It used to be a more affordable and welcoming place, but now it's dominated by tech companies and wealthy individuals. It's becoming increasingly difficult for the average person to afford living here. But I still have a deep love for this city and its culture. - Maria T."
4. "San Francisco is a dream city for those who love the outdoors. There are endless hiking trails, beautiful beaches, and stunning views. On the downside, the cost of living is incredibly high and the traffic is horrendous. But if you can afford it, it's a great place to live. - Jake M."

To San Franciscans, Every Damn Thing is Political - 11/19/2009
I love San Francisco; I have lived here 22 years. If you are a young adult, I think it's a wonderful place to live. Move here, you'll never regret it.
Not so great for families, or people who enjoy being full-fledged adults.
Be forewarned-most people in SF can only think in left-political terms. If you are an active republican, you will be shunned and insulted. I am not political myself, by which I mean that I'd rather focus on things I have more control over. This attitude has not gone over well with the true believers.
The political life here boils down to a never-ending series of complaints. You must be able to feign great regret over the birth of George Bush. If you can't do this with sincerity, you are more doomed than a Jew in medieval Europe. People are still complaining about Ronald Reagan, even though he's been out of office 21 years and is in fact dead; in their complaints, he'll live

San Francisco Reality - 10/16/2009
San Franciso is really a township and it is also its own county. The city boasts beatiful views and the interiors of select homes are just as gorgeous. We pratice green as much as we can and are a forerunner in the field. There are many artists, techies, homeowners, famileies, singles, gays, transgenders, entrpreneurs and just regular folk here. Cheap eats are in the mission and tenderloin districts.WE have areas that experience much violence such as the bayview, the mission and the western addition. The beautiful areas are sea cliff, pacific heights, the richmond district and parts of the sunset district and haight ashbury heights, twin peaks &ST. Francisco woods areas.Great restaurants are in the Soma district and south of Soma or Mission bay. Our baseball park is on the waterfront in the soma district.Throught the city is diverse we have a chinatown, japantown and a neighborhood dedicated to Saigon. San Franciscans are challenging, creative, smart & fun. Locals call it Frisco; urban

Crowded, Pricey, Traffic - 9/30/2009
A great place to visit-at least see it in your life! The Bay Area has the Highest Housing COSTS in the USA (along w/NY & LosAngeles areas). SF caters to the homeless - why they are everywhere & very aggressive in trying to get your money!! They live in tribes I was told. Lived there 4 yrs in my 20's & got tired of the hassle to park, traffic, high rent, the homeless on every street.SF has history and landmarks-a great place to visit (the main revenue is the tourist

Over-rated and Over-priced - now - 9/24/2009
I lived in SF the late 1980's - 1990's. The first thing I noticed (in my 20's) were SO MANY homeless-who are very aggressive & everywhere. They wait outside the grocery and stand in your way to beg when you exit the stores. Housing/Rent cost is OUT OF CONTROL! Traffic is horrendous (since the Silicon Valley hey days 1980's) In my opinion, SF is over-rated/priced, very dirty, horrendous traffic, extremely liberal, AND over-crowded = high tensions. People will run right over you. The charm is gone-SF was probably more livable and beautiful OVER 40 years ago. For the very rich-with no families, the homeless, or if you are

Government tunnel vision - shortsighted, special interests groups, bureaucratic waste, impractical - abuse of power: zoning, regulation, enforcement of entertainment and liquor laws bordering on a dictatorial morass of censorship to model lifestyle based on mythic mores of society; abusive revenue streams to supplement government waste IE: parking, towing violations; property tax, legal court system
