Thank you Nevada County and Truckee CA - 5/12/2020
I came to Truckee California about a month prior to this Covid-19 pandemic, to relocate here. Due to this unfortunate circumstance I was temporarily laid off interrupting my plans to settle. I found many wonderful people and resources available to aide in my continued survival through Nevada County. Thank You! You all provided a safe and welcoming enviorment through this most difficult time. Recognizing the services provided by or in relation to the Seirra Community House has proven INVALUABLE for my sanity, health and well being. Another 2 months down and still unsure to what end this will last. Also acknowledging the generous Non-Profit Foundation which provided MANY essential necessities like the Day and Warming Centers with such a kind, helpful and informative staff. Honestly couldn't have made it this far without all ya all, really Thank you. Read More

Not a place you want to rasie children. - 12/5/2015
I moved to Truckee with my soon-to-be ex-wife and two sons in June 2012 and left Truckee in June 2015 with only my sons. My wife got drawn into what I later learned from her and another VERY reliable source that knows the town from an insider’s perspective, that the Tahoe area has a very large sexual deviant population. My wife became part of it while working at the Resort at Squaw Creek in February 2014. Things went downhill from there until I finally had my wife removed from our home for domestic violence in September 2014. In the interim my wife admitted to at least a dozen sexual encounters and numerous detailed accounts of prostituting (including very promenade locals). The Tahoe Daily Tribune has several articles regarding teenage suicides, a high teenage alcohol abuse rate, permissive parents allowing their children to party and high rates of adult alcoholism. I had the counselor at my 4th graders school lie to me and the principal failing to follow important school policies Read More

Higher Cost of Living but Worth It - 4/22/2010
Yes, it costs more to live in California. And you don't get paid more necessarily if you live in the mountains- but there are some great jobs here if you have the right skills or profession. I would say a family HH income needs to be around $100K+ in 2010 to get by comfortably- or you can be thrifty. Of course young folks can get by on a lot less. Moderate homes are in the $300 to $500K range- but you can buy a mobile home for $50K. The amenities are why you live here. Skiing, boating, biking, hiking, relaxing, etc. It's a deers or bears in the yard kind of place. This is a nice place to live and a place for non-stop exploring to help keep things lively.

Also, people that enjoy the mountain lifestyle. Lots of retired folks from all over. A great art community too. You come here if you like the mountains and snow- 200" per year, and sound of the wind in Pines. Oh, and the morning sun coming up over Mt. Rose lighting up the Truckee river, ripple by ripple and a train Read More
