However, she also notes that the area lacks diversity and job opportunities. On the other hand, user "Mark" has a more negative view of the city. Twentynine Palms is terrible - 10/3/2020
Twentynine Palms is a really nice, i have a beautiful house... In 5 years, i almost never see anyone outside.. It is very creepy! No one says hi, or waves if you do see anyone.. If you venture out in the wilderness, you might be shot at, by some gun guy, who knows nobody is around to witness anything, so they shoot right at you... People will tail gate you, especially men in Lifted Pickup trucks.. They treat the roads like its nascar drafting and passing, and then we all stop together at the stop signal? You can drive to the store with out Racer X white pickup truck guy? No speed in ever fast enough for those guys... they just want the satisfaction of being in front of you? Its super creepy and weird? Did i mention how no one does anything "fun" except shoot guns? When I do see another person tbey completely ignore you, or they check to make sure their car doors are locked as you walk by... I feel as if most of 29 Palms is suffering from isolation sickness... Housing is super cheap here. So we are mortgage free. Weather is hot and dry. Good to dry up inflammations. Las Vegas and Palm Springs are much hotter. 29Palms is a laid back rural city of 30,000 with a large Marine base to inject money into the economy and market rentals if you buy and decide this hi desert oasis is not for you, just rent your investment. People stop and talk to one another here. The views are breathtaking. The air is cleaner. There is little crime. And less traffic.  Read More

Cheap Place to Live, Nothing Spectacular - 2/23/2014
I work on the USMC base as a contractor and rent a house with my fiance. We live in a nice area of town, but the rent is $1550/mon, which by California standards is pretty cheap for a 2000 sq foot new construction, single family home. The 29 Palms residents are nice, there is little violent crime, but there has been some theft in our housing development. We are close to Joshua Tree National Park and about an hour away from Palm Springs. Plenty to do here for outdoor adventurers that enjoy the desert, and while snowstorms are punishing the east coast, we have enjoyed balmy 75-85 degree temperatures. The summers are unbearably hot. There are only 2 grocery stores here but there is a Wal-Mart Supercenter about 15 miles away. We use amazon.com for most of our shopping if we don't want to drive to Palm Springs. You can find a lot of nice homes under $150,000 here in 29 Palms and rent is fairly Read More

Overall a great place to live - 9/15/2012
I have lived in 29 Palms for 11 years. There are many beautiful things about this city, but some negative things as well. The sunsets and the night sky are beautiful. The schools are excellent and 29 is a great place to raise kids. You don't have to worry about gangs as you would in another city. Though it doesn't feel like as much of a small town as it did a few years ago it still feels like a small town with a great small-town atmosphere.
Summers are very very hot and sometimes humidity makes it horrible, but those days only happen a few times. Winter is cold and there is rain sometimes. We've gotten snow 2 times in the 11 years I've been here and it didn't stick to the ground but it snowed! Spring and fall are nice but there isn't 4 seasons. It seems like 2. Winter and summer. Most rainfall I would say is in the end of Summer around August-September.
There are a few things to do in 29, but it's pretty boring. There's a main food store,a bowling alley, a Read More
