Best place to live in the San Francisco Bay Area - 9/25/2019
Apart from the congestion, Walnut Creek is one of the best places in the San Francisco Bay Area to live. It is one of the most compact/walkable cities in the entire area and the BART station is just a few minutes from downtown. We don't have peons or junkies shooting up and passed along the sidewalk, and no one defecates on the side like in SF. San Francisco and Oakland have a high prevalence of street urchins and undesirables... neither is particularly safe and both are dirty and seedy, apart from the expensive neighborhoods. Walnut Creek is the exact opposite. Besides the winter being colder than most of Bay Area, during the rest of the year the climate is usually superior, except for 10-20 days when it exceeds 100F. Most of the bay area, particularly near the bay/ocean is not very warm or comfortable most of the time, with SF being the worst. Except for some relatively infrequent property crime, usually related to car break-ins, it is a safe place to live. The property crime seems Read More

Great water quality - 6/18/2018
Almost all of Walnut Creek water comes from Pardee dam through an enclosed pipeline. That water is direct from the high Sierras. Among the best water quality in the Read More

So hot - 5/6/2018
I grew up in Southern California and am no stranger to a more inland California climate. Before moving to WC I lived in San Francisco for 15 years where it is obviously much more temperate. Ever since moving to WC in 2013 tho, I feel as though I live in an inferno. In March it can get up to 100+ degrees. All the way to October! DO NOT BELIEVE THE WEATHER PREDICTIONS!!! I became so obsessed with accurately measuring the heat (because even during a 3 month stretch of normal 95-105 temps, the weather will be forecast to be 85-95 100% of the time) that I bought a weather satellite installed on my roof. Whether it is politically motivated, or just plain laziness, the consistent downplay of high temps by 5-10 degrees is misleading AND HAPPENS EVERYDAY.
If not for the 8-9 months a year where it is hard to be outside, the town is nice. A little fancy (Tiffany’s and high end boutiques abound) without a play water fountain in the newly built downtown shopping plaza for kids to play, for Read More

Clean safe city - 3/14/2018
I've lived all over the world and toured Europe, Asia etc. So far I prefer Walnut Creek to any of the other cities or islands I've lived. I've lived here in Walnut Creek for 15 years. Relatively very safe; and no loose dogs roaming around either on the iron horse trails; no thugs or gang members hanging out at 7-11 or on the corners like in many towns or cities. Sure, occasional weirdos do walk around but you need to always be on your alert anywhere in the world. Clean upscale city with great restaurants and fancy shops. Catholic churches are close by, hospitals and healthy food stores all within 1 mile range. Walking to downtown is short few minutes. 5 stars!!!! Read More

Home costs for 2017 - 5/23/2017
I forgot to add that the cost of a single family home in Walnut Creek in 2017 is very high. You can get a small, older home for about $800,000 -- but be prepared to put in a bid quickly. Prices have skyrocketed these last couple of years. If you are reading this post in 2018 or later, you won't find that $800,000 single family home any longer. The price has gone up! Some of the really great condos right in downtown Walnut Creek are more expensive than the single family homes!  Read More

Very congested living, good weather, expensive, gr - 5/16/2016
In 2016, as I write this, I am concerned about the number of large scale apartment/condo buildings being built in Downtown Walnut Creek and the surrounding areas. An explosion of heavy constructuion has engulfed the Downtown area for at least two years now. The amount of housing proposed and in various stages of completion of many large-scale buildings is STAGGERING. With the Walnut Creek downtown area so incredibly crowded NOW, how can this many additional people possibly be accommodated? Will there be room to walk on the sidewalks? Yes, Walnut Creek is beautiful, clean, numerous restaurants and stores but extremely expensive to live here and highest of densities. Weather is good. The last two years were record breakers in heat (as it was in many places on the entire planet in 2014 and 2015), and Walnut Creek was no exception. We had many days in the hundreds and the hot weather lasted through October. By November it's comfortable again and our winters are Read More

Hot Summers, Mild to Cold Winters (no snow) - 11/13/2014
Walnut Creek is a wonderful place to live. The city was well conceived by its founding fathers, and it remains friendly, compact, and suited to people of all ages. Downtown is wonderful, filled with shops and restaurants. There are excellent libraries, and we have a well-respected performing arts center: Lesher Theater. Schools are good, and the residents in town take care to keep their properties looking well-groomed and clean.

CLIMATE: The climate takes some getting used to if you are moving from a cold/snowy/frosty location. Summers can be HOT (80s-90s) with clear blue skies that continue for five months. Very consistent summer weather from June to October. In the evenings, it cools down, and there are nice breezes to cool your home. Starting in November, the weather cools and brings some rain. The coldest winters can be in the 30s, but generally it's in the 50s. Rain comes and goes, but the sky stays bright.

Easy access to SFO and OAK airports - 11/11/2013
It's very convenient to take BART (a light rail system, www.bart.gov) straight to the San Francisco Int'l Airport (no transfers required) within approximately one hour. Round trip is about $20. While Oakland is closer, a train transfer and a shuttle are required. It still take approximately one hour; and the cost is about $16 rt. You'll need exactly $3 ow (cash or a BART ticket) for the AirBart Shuttle. BART is one of the best reasons to live out in the Read More
