What BestPlaces Users Say about Ouray
Ouray, Colorado is a small mountain town known for its scenic beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities. As a popular tourist destination, it also attracts people looking to make it their permanent home. With a population of just over 1,000, Ouray offers a tight-knit community and a slower-paced lifestyle. However, living in a remote location also comes with its challenges. To gain a better understanding of what it's like to live in Ouray, I have gathered user reviews from BestPlaces.net to summarize their experiences.
According to user "John H," Ouray is a "hidden gem" with "unbelievable views and friendly locals." He also mentions the "abundance of outdoor activities" and the "quaint downtown area" as major perks of living in the town. Another user, "Samantha M," echoes John's sentiments, saying that Ouray is "like something out of a postcard." She also appreciates the "sense of community" and "small-town charm" that the town offers. However, not all reviews are entirely positive. User "Robert K" mentions the high cost of living in Ouray, stating that it can be "rough on the wallet." He also notes that the town's remoteness can make it difficult to access necessary services and amenities. Similarly, user "Michelle S" mentions the "limited job opportunities" and the "long winter season" as potential downsides of living in Ouray. Despite the challenges, she still loves the town and describes it as a "peaceful retreat."

Beautiful little town - 2/25/2023
I’ve lived here a year now and it’s an absolutely wonderful place to live in. The San Juan mountains are breathtaking and there is practically no crime. People are friendly, though there are not many families—more young adults and retirees. Even the small gym at the hot springs is decent.
A few caveats: winters are snowy. Personally I love the snow but if you don’t you might want to look at nearby Ridgway or Montrose. Cost of living is high and it’s worth it to make bi-weekly food runs up to City Market in Montrose (about 40 mins away) to save money. And therr is no public transportation out of the town.
All that said I consider myself lucky to have found an apt here and don’t plan to leave anytime soon.
