What BestPlaces Users Say about Bridgeport

Bridgeport, Connecticut is a city located in Fairfield County with a population of over 140,000 residents. It is known for its cultural attractions, beautiful parks, and diverse demographics. However, there are varying opinions about living in Bridgeport. According to Best Places, a website that collects user reviews and ratings on different cities, many individuals have shared their experiences of living in this particular place. These reviews touch upon various aspects such as safety, cost of living, and overall quality of life. Here are some excerpts from four different user reviews:

1) "Bridgeport is a great city for those who prioritize cultural diversity and affordable living. As a person of color, I feel welcomed and accepted in this community. The cost of living here is much lower compared to other nearby cities like New York. However, the city does have its safety concerns. I would recommend living in a gated community or near downtown for a safer experience." - Karim, a resident of Bridgeport.

2) "I have lived in Bridgeport for almost 10 years and it has been a rollercoaster ride. The city has its upsides and downsides. The parks and beaches are beautiful, but the crime rate is a major concern. I have seen some improvements in recent years, but there is still a long way to go. Overall, I would say it's an average place to live." - Emily, a long-time resident of Bridgeport.

3) "I moved to Bridgeport about a year ago and I absolutely love it. The food scene here is amazing and there are always events and festivals happening. The only downside is the high cost of living. Rent prices are steep and groceries can be expensive. But I think it's worth it for the overall experience of living in such a vibrant city." - John, a recent transplant to Bridgeport.

4) "I would not recommend living in Bridgeport to anyone. I have been a resident for 5 years and I am counting down the days until I can move out. The crime rate is out of control and the schools are not up to par. It's also very expensive to live here. I regret my decision to move here." - Sarah, a dissatisfied resident of Bridgeport.

These reviews showcase the diverse perspectives of living in Bridgeport. While some appreciate the affordability and diversity of the city, others highlight concerns about safety and cost of living. It's important for individuals to do their own research and consider these factors before making the decision to live in Bridgeport.

Bridgeport - 8/14/2014
Bridgeport Connecticut is a beautiful city and a wonderful place to live. I currently attend Central Magnet high school as well as the Bridgeport Aquaculture school and I can honestly say that the quality of education that is offered there is amazing. The teachers are very helpful and the courses that are offered are interesting and realistic to the science related fields that are needed in a city that is next to the water. Not only are the schools great, but life in the park city is great. The people here are kind and generous towards each other and there's a lot to do. Besides all the parks here we have the only zoo in Connecticut. There's also tons of places to fish, the Barnum museum is downtown and the history in Bridgeport is so rich. Those who bash this city don't know the real Bridgeport. Of course there crime occasionally, but then again, there's going to be crime anywhere you go. Bridgeport is such a special place. You can have a nice conversation with anyone you come across Read More

in retrospect - 8/9/2012
I left Bridgeport in 1996, after bankruptcy changed it. I left looking for a better place to live. Funny thing is I haven't found it. I grew up in Bridgeport. What I loved? It was near the ocean. Not all towns have that quality. It had three parks. Seaside with lots of playing fields, Beardsley with a petting zoo and a nearby dairy queen, and Pleasure Island with endless horseshoe crabs. The houses have character, at least the older well maintained homes. I attended Central Magnet High School and I had the best teachers. They were people that cared about my future. They guided me to attend college, and they taught me how to work hard. Yes, there was crime. I personally never suffered anything horrible thank God, but I was no stranger to people being murdered, raped, or robbed. You know what, so far Bridgeport is one of the best places I'e ever lived. I moved to Florida. Everything costs an extensive amount of money. Florida was fun, but living there was hectic. I found that Read More

??Armpit of NE?? - 3/3/2010
Unlike some other writers, I have lived in many places in New England. Although the relative absence of wealth compared to it's surrounding towns stands out, however, Bridgeport is Far From the Armpit of NE. Like many other ex-industrial northeast cities it has it's problems, but the quality of life is not that bad. It's proximity to NYC and FF County's Gold Coast, along with relative affordability for young professionals make a decent place to bunk. There are good restaurants/bars, down to earth people and and a budding arts scene. If you want an armpit - try living in Worcester, Lowell, New Read More

So why are you still living here???? The beauty about life is having options, right? I have lived here 17 years and unfortunately I read this message about two and half years late. However, in the seventeen years I have lived here, I have joined committee's, Helped at local schools and carry a book to lodge the address's of people who should be fined for not keeping up with their properties, and colling the city on them. You see, people like to #$%^ where they eat. Perhaps you have forgotten it is Bridgeport with two major hospitals, three court houses and a wast management site. Not to mention the beautiful Seaside Beach with a fabulous view of Long Island Sound. It takes one person negative take on a city such as ours to be viewed as the scum of the Earth. It takes one person like myself and the voice and hard work of the people I have befriended on my adventures to molding my City to the Gem it once was. So, instead of bashing Bridgeport why not help make the city better, or better Read More

I agree with Johnny from Stratford. - 12/23/2008
I agree with Johnny of Stratford, CT....I was born and raised in Bridgeport and it will always be home, but when I come to visit, after a few days I'm ready to go back to Virginia. I refer to Brideport as the "BLACK HOLE" due to the fact that it seems like everyone there is stressed out due to financial burdens. I can't seem to understand why it costs so much to live in that horrible city that don't care about its residents. The streets have more potholes that a land mine testing field, the schools aren't worth sh*t (excuse my choice of words but there almost seems to be no other way to put it) there's absolutly no night life unless you're into crime. ALL OF THE OFFICIALS IN THE CITY ARE DIRTY. Another thing I don't understand is how do you charge people the amount of money you do to enter crappy ol' Seaside Park????? There's nothing there, no attractions, nowhere to eat once you've entered the park, everything is blocked off, and what we refer to as the "Mummy Pond" looks like you Read More

Bridgeport is the armpit of New England - 8/24/2008
Bridgeport is the worst city in NE. The crime is terrible, the streets are dirty, and crack rules the city. To make matters worse, jackass Police Chief cut all special operations programs ie. Narcotics, K9, etc. which equates to higher crime for the future. Also Bridgeport is among the highest property taxed cities in the Read More

Bridgeport is the armpit of New England - 8/24/2008
The streets are filthy, crime is awful and will be getting worse. The Police force has a horrible Chief who is cutting all the special operations ie. Narcotics, K9, and other details. The city is pretty much bankrupt and is losing commerce to better cities in the county ie. Bank of Scotland. To top it all off, Bridgeport has among the highest property tax rate in the state. I feel sorry for people who have to live in Read More
