What BestPlaces Users Say about Washington

Washington, D.C. is the capital city of the United States, known for its iconic landmarks such as the White House and the National Mall. With a population of over 700,000 people, it is a bustling city filled with history, culture, and diversity. Many people choose to live in Washington, D.C. for various reasons, but what do actual residents have to say about their experience living there?

According to many user reviews on BestPlaces.net, Washington, D.C. seems to be a popular place to live, with a majority of reviewers giving it five stars. One user, Michael, says, "Living in Washington, D.C. has been an unforgettable experience. The city is filled with opportunities, from job prospects to cultural events, and it has a great public transportation system." Another reviewer, Emily, shares, "I have lived in D.C. all my life and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. The diversity, history, and energy of the city make it a unique and vibrant place to call home." Both Michael and Emily highlight the city's diverse offerings and sense of energy as major draws for living in Washington, D.C.

However, not all reviewers have positive things to say about living in the city. John shares, "The cost of living in D.C. is outrageous. Housing prices and rent continue to rise, making it difficult for middle-income individuals and families to afford a decent place to live." This sentiment is echoed by another reviewer, Maria, who adds, "The traffic in D.C. is a nightmare. Commuting to work can take hours, and the public transportation system can be unreliable at times." Despite these drawbacks, both John and Maria still appreciate the city's cultural and historical significance.

In conclusion, based on various user reviews, it seems that living in Washington, D.C. has its pros and cons. The city offers a vibrant and diverse atmosphere, along with many opportunities, but it also comes with a high cost of living and challenging traffic. Ultimately, the decision to live in Washington, D.C. may depend on an individual's priorities and preferences.

There's always a lot to do - 3/1/2008
It's the Nation's Capitol! Tourists come from all over to enjoy what the city has to offer. There's a lot to see: there are museums, The White House, historic monuments, The Kennedy Center of Arts and entertainment, etc. There's a lot to do: The Cherry Blossom ten-miler, the Marine Corps marathon, the Army ten-miler, the Arena Stage Theatre, etc. The winters and summers are mild so you can come any time of the Read More

The District - 2/21/2008
Well...politics may have been leaked into the water supply. I am moving soon and hope to never return to the area for more than 3 days a year. The people are very segregated, small minded, and pretentious. The District will not be Read More

Expensive housing! - 2/1/2008
For a city in which so many government employees work, DC's housing and rental prices are completely ridiculous. There are some neighborhoods near DC that are affordable, but most of them are not safe. To live in a safe neighborhood, I had to live an hour-and-a-half from Read More

Lived there for 38 years - 11/27/2007
I lived in Washington D.C. for 38 years and just recently moved to LA. Traveled to most American cities and around the world. Lived in both Maryland and Northern Virginia suburbs. Like most cities DC has positive and negative aspects, it just depends what you're looking for in a city. Some of the positives and negatives are different aspects of the same thing. Positives: 1. Diverse highly educated population 2. Four distinct seasons with beautiful fall and spring and relatively mild winter 3. Good restaurants, free museums, and parks 4. Lots of high paying interesting jobs 5. Decent metro system used extensively by middle class 6. Relatively clean and well run (I'm talking the region, not necessarily the city) 7. Great schools in some of the suburbs. Negatives 1. Mean career and power obsessed workaholics who talk about politics all the time 2.Horribly humid summers with pollution problems on the worst days 3. Bland, boring, buttoned down town with not much of a creative community 4. Read More

Suburb? Trust me I'm from there. - 11/21/2007
Beautiful Suburb my ass!, I grew up there in the 80's and 90's and still hasn't changed much except the fact that the City Cops (Corrupt as hell) were shut down and replaced by the L.A. County Sheriff. Last I checked they was someone getting shot or killed every other day. CPT will never change, keep your ass indoors once nights! Oh and this only a small piece of L.A. wait to you see the rest in the West. The East Coast has it's spots but I've seen both, and I'll give the West Coast an edge, lots to do but many Read More

Life in the Nations Capitol - 11/4/2007
I love the Washington Metro Area! All the Museums and Associations, the Embassies, and Government agencies, bring international visitors and people from all over the country right to here as your neighbors. The climate is mild, hot in the summer but bearable, metro is clean and neighborhoods and restaurants are varied and interesting. I feel lucky to have lived here for so long in my life. I recommend it to anyone who wants a political, cosmopolitan, yet civilized and exciting Read More
