Quality of Life in Central Florida - 9/22/2012
Life here, as a retiree, is wonderful -- close to SO MANY Florida attractions -- parks, lakes, shopping galore, and, of course, all of the Disney parks and entertainment. People speak of the horrible heat here, but in Central Florida, that heat lasts only around 4 months each year -- for the remainder of the year, being early fall through late spring, October thru late May, the temps are VERY tolerable (very mild winters), and the days are GLORIOUS! This is a gorgeous, active place to Read More

Suburb of Orlando with a variety of jobs. Although the housing costs are high (I pay $1240/mo for a house in a decent neighborhood and that's considered very cheap!), you'll find many types of jobs here in Altamonte Springs(but it's the finding one that's tough. If you're looking to buy a decent but not too large of a place to live in a A-rated school system, you'll be looking at about $270k-$350K in our area. One good thing about Seminole County is that most schools are A-B rated except in Sanford (you don't want to live there, trust me.) I think that Lake Brantley High is the only A-rated public high school in the Central Florida area, and it's tough to buy a house in that district because everyone wants their kids to go there. Shopping, shopping, and more shopping! We've got a good sized mall and retail shops out the yin-yang! Crane's Roost park boasts of many types entertainment from jazz festivals, kids themed days, July 4th fireworks, and much more. Retirees would feel safe Read More

Too little for Too much. - 11/19/2006
I have lived in Altamonte Springs for almost 2 years. The rent here is ridiculous thanks to most of the area going condo. I moved into what I thought would be a quiet, peaceful, somewhat stress free apartment complex. WRONG!! I pay $890 per month and that is with a "discount" that is offered for signing a year lease. The neighbors are loud and don't follow any of the rules set, (like grilling on a balcony underneath my own balcony). Loud booming car stereos at 2 in the morning. I found drug paraphernalia on the ground just 3 weeks ago. The downstairs neighbors don't speak English, and have 1 woman, at least 3 men and 3 small children living in a two bedroom apt. They leave their door open alot and you can see childrens bunk beds and a toddler bed in the living room. From what I have heard about the Orlando/Altamonte Springs area this is common practice. I live on Wymore Rd in Altamonte and its a strange sight to see because one side of the road is apartment complexes that you can tell Read More
