What BestPlaces Users Say about Fort Myers

Fort Myers, Florida is a popular city located on the southwestern coast of Florida. It is known for its beautiful beaches, warm weather, and diverse culture. With a growing population of over 87,000 residents, Fort Myers has become a desirable place to live for many individuals and families. However, like any city, it has its pros and cons. In order to gain a better understanding of what it's like to live in Fort Myers, we will be summarizing user reviews from the website BestPlaces.net.

User Reviews:
1. "I've lived in Fort Myers for over 10 years now and have seen it change tremendously. The cost of living is affordable, especially compared to other cities in Florida. The weather is great all year round, and the beaches are just a short drive away. However, the traffic can be a nightmare during tourist season and the job market could be better." - Sarah J.

2. "Fort Myers is a beautiful city with plenty to do. The downtown area is lively and there are always events going on. However, the crime rate can be a concern, especially in certain neighborhoods. It's important to do your research before deciding on a specific area to live in." - Mark T.

3. "I moved to Fort Myers about a year ago and I absolutely love it. The people are friendly and there is a strong sense of community here. The food scene is also fantastic, with a variety of cuisines to choose from. The only downside is that it can get quite hot and humid during the summer months, so be prepared for that." - Jennifer S.

4. "I've lived in Fort Myers my whole life and I can honestly say it's a great place to call home. The beaches are beautiful and there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. The cost of living has definitely gone up in recent years, but in my opinion, it's worth it for the quality of life here." - John D.

From these reviews, it's clear that Fort Myers has a lot to offer in terms of its affordable cost of living, great weather, and diverse activities. However, some potential drawbacks include heavy traffic, crime rates, and hot summers. Ultimately, it seems that the majority of residents are happy with their decision to live in Fort Myers and enjoy the overall sense of community and quality of life.

A great place to be FROM! - 3/23/2006
Fort Myers, Lee County, used to be a nice place to live. 20 years ago. I watched it change, and not for the better. The population almost tripled, the traffic is awful, the expenses are from Hell. Housing, taxes, anything you need are far more expensive here than you can imagine. Goods and services are available, but very expensive and the quality isn't all you pay for. I miss my friends and family, but I definitely do not miss the Gulf Coast. Glad to be out of Florida. Happily I found Vicksburg, MS and love Read More

You Get What You Pay For - 12/11/2005
Southern time? Fort Myers is far from southern. Since there are mostly transplants from the Midwest, it is a very Yankee town. You won't here a "twang" in the local accent.
The lack of job performance is from the lack of pay. Couple that with the high cost of living and you have surly Read More

Difficult Place to Live - 9/7/2005
Housing costs are through the roof. It is difficult to conduct business in a positive manner here due to the lack of work ethic and the lack of pride in a job well done. The culture is very much "southern", not exactly what one would expect when moving to Florida. Everyone is pretty much on "island time" here, and it is difficult to meet and make friends with quality Read More

Home Values/Prices - 6/13/2005
The average home price in Fort Myers is much higher than listed here, $99,000 (though I did read the note that the prices indicated are from 2000). I live in the City of Fort Myers and purchased my modest 2BR/2BA home in April 2001 for $82,000. Comparable homes in this area are now selling for over $200,000. Within the last six months, one home down the street sold for $221,000 and one around the corner sold for $210,000, both vey similar to my own.

Overall in Lee County, the average price is now $275,000 - $300,000 for a standard 3BR/2BA/2GAR Read More
