User Reviews:
1. From "Samantha W." on BestPlaces.net: "I've lived in Jacksonville my whole life and I have to say, it's a great place to live. The weather is amazing, the people are friendly, and there is always something to do. However, the traffic can be a nightmare and the cost of living is definitely on the higher side."
2. From "John S." on BestPlaces.net: "Jacksonville has a lot to offer in terms of job opportunities and entertainment. However, as a resident for over 10 years, I have seen a decline in the overall safety of the city. Crime rates have been on the rise and it's something to consider when choosing to live here."
3. From "Karen M." on BestPlaces.net: "I moved to Jacksonville from a small town and I have to say, it's been a great change for me. The city is filled with diverse cultures and there is always something new to try. The only downside is the hurricane season, but it's worth it to live here."
4. From "Mike D." on BestPlaces.net: "I've lived in Jacksonville for a few years now and I have to say, it's not my favorite place. The city is spread out and it's hard to get around without a car. The public transportation system is lacking and the traffic can be unbearable during rush hour."

Left Jacksonville and not looking back - 4/14/2011
If you have a family, Jacksonville is not for you. The school system sucks. You will not live in Duval County and send your kids to public school. There is a charter school Paxon that is nationally ranked but it is very hard for kids to get accepted. There are some private school options that are religious based that may be another optiuon if you live in Duval County.
St. Augustine and Clay are neighboring counties to Duval that have the top public school systems in the state if you want your kids to get a good education.
I lived in Jacksonville for three years and I can honestly say that I did not enjoy my time there. I was living in the Midwest (MN) at the time so I thought that it would be nice to live in an area that does not have any winters. When I got down there, I realized that I made a huge mistake.
Jacksonville is a very violent city. While I wasn't a victim of a crime while I was there, news reprts of shooting occured daily.

Small town nowhere, nothing--to be avoided at ALL - 4/6/2011
If you're straight, from an area where some progressive values exist and just want a safe, clean, modern, entertaining area to raise a family...and you landed here in Jacksonville? You better get down on your knees and find out why God HATES you! Jax is exactly the opposite of anything good, bright, healthy and progressive. Downtown is super-nasty. The city does stupid things such as build a multi-million dollar library so street urchins can pan handle and harrass what few people tranverse. Then they build a multi-million dollar courthouse, with the Mayor's cronies, out of town contractors, to try and convict some of the street scum. All-in-all, Jacksonville, the physical city, could be San Antonio, Portland, Orlando or Bolder. It's THE PEOPLE--the ignorant, REDNECK, low-ambition, Confederacy-lovin', KKK-minded social retards which ruin Jacksonville. There is NO chance for Jacksonville to ever exceed its hundred year old inbred culture. It is the perfect example of an all red city.

Economy is bad here - 3/8/2011
Driving from South Florida, I took a vacation up to Jacksonville for a week and based on my visit to Jaks this is my opinion about the city. First, I noticed that the city is quiet and the economy is poor. According to this website it is at over 10% unemployment rate, but I think it is more like 20%. In addition, the city is so space out that you have to drive pretty far just trying to get somewhere. The population density level is only 1,113 per square mile which is very low. A city this size should be above 3,000. Since Jaks is so close to Georgia state line, many people work in Georgia but lives in the Jaks area trying to avoid the Georgia's state income which is at 6%. Maybe that is why the unemployment is so high in Jaks?
The city is lacking entertainment like events, bars, nightclubs, and etc. I have been to downtown Jaks. There is really nothing interesting to do here. Downtown area wasn't that big. Then I went to Jaks beach one day and there is only a

Poor Neighborhoods - 2/4/2011
The neighborhoods in Jacksonville are not as refined as some others. A lot of older housing coupled with low income make the street and corners look delapitated. Despite the city's efforts to clean up and beautify the streets, poor home care makes you frown as you drive in older neighborhoods that could be

considering moving to Jacksonville? do your homewo - 1/9/2011
knowing what i know about Jacksonville, if i were considering a move to
the sunny state of Florida i would definately choose another city in Fla.
I lived in Jacksonville for 39 years, and i recently just moved from there
because the city has gotten so awful and crime ridden it is just hard to
believe it is in the United States anymore even. Their are multiple reasons
why i would never live there again or recommend anyone even considering a
move there. For review purposes i do not mean to be overly harsh but the
vast majority of people in Jacksonville seem to be just rude for no apparent
real reason and after close observation come across as dangerous with many
being obviously clearly uneducated. If you look at all of the recent crime statistics for the last few years it is verifiably a DANGEROUS PLACE to live.
Notable of the fact that there is practically a church on every street corner
the community in Jax is terribly

Great weather - 9/24/2010
The Northeast section of Florida does have 4 seasons and winters are usually not too cold for too long. Summers tend to be hot and humid with afternoon showers that cool it off a bit. I like the change of seasons here.
The Housing market is also great here with lots of very nice neighborhoods with plenty of affordable

Jacksonville, FL - 8/2/2010
I live in Jacksonville, FL with my husband and 2 1/2 year old son. Both of us grew up here and it is a wonderful city with a long summer season and enough to do to keep busy. It is a big small town with a great beach atmosphere, but a lacking urban section. It is very suburban and very large land-wise. We have a good amount of sports events and cultural opportunities as
