Pros and Cons - 7/16/2013
There is no doubt that Longwood is a family-friendly community. There are lots of nice neighborhoods and it feels quite safe here. There is always something to do with your children and the surrounding communities are also very family-friendly as well. The schools are great and the beaches and theme parks are only about 45min to and hour away. Many people take the short 30 minute drive to work in Orlando.

However, there are certainly drawbacks. It is amazingly hot most of the year which means that outdoor activities are limited to water-themed only. You can only go to the park, bike ride or walk 3 months out of the year during "winter" because of the heat. Also, it is near impossible to get natural products or organic produce without paying a small fortune. Even the farmers markets sell produce thats shipped from other countries and not organic. Most all of the restaurants/stores are major franchises and small businesses suffer a lot. There's a McDonalds on Read More

Hello all,my husband & I are considering moving to Longwood FL from Mass in the spring 2013.I have done a good amount of research on the area but still have a couple of ?'s.Where is the closest beach? is there a good amount of jobs in the area? my husband & I both work retail/customer service but I have also done office work.It seems like there is a lot of things for families to do and Disney seems to be only about 30 minutes away.Is there certain areas to stay away from? So far every website I have looked @ regarding longwood has postive comments. We have never visited the area but plan on doing that soon before we make the move but like what we have seen so Read More

Beautiful Family place - 10/2/2006
We have lived here for 23 years, and even though it has grown and is more crowded, it is still beautiful and a good place to raise a family.

Great for families - 8/22/2006
Longwood is a great place for families because of the schools, kid friendly places etc. But...not so great if you are a single person. The houseing is geared toward families and there are few places to rent or buy which would be the right size for a single. A one or two bedroom home is almost impossible to find. I find myself living in a large three bedroom, two bath home on a large lot and I would be happier in a smaller home with less maintenace. Most of the apartments in this area are going condo.

Also, there are few places for singles to socialize. It is all about the family here so if that is your focus....this is the place to be. If you are single and work in Longwood or any community outside of Orlando, I would suggest biting the bullet and paying the very high rent and taking the long drive through terrible traffic instead of living here. At least in Orlando you will have a social life once you get home and will not be a slave to your suburban lawn on the Read More

Moved here from PA - 6/24/2006
Longwood is a great place to raise kids. Schools are great, neighborhoods are safe, and everything is easily accessable. Definately would recommend living here if you like it hot. The winter and spring are very pleasant. Temps in the 70's in the day and 40's at night. From May-October it tends to get hot. High 80's to low 90's with afternoon showers. We have been here for about 6 1/2 years and love it. The only downfall is that it is constantly growing and so many people are relocating to the area. We miss the seasons Read More
