Escambia county is on life support. - 12/17/2022
I grew up in Pcola and moved away after hurricane Ivan over a decade ago. I have recently moved back and was shocked to see the rate of decline it has endured over the years. Hardly any new buildings or establishments have been built unless you go past the 9-mile road area. It seems most new businesses are in old businesses that used to be car part stores, fast food places, gas stations, etc.. Businesses that do not fit that style of building, it's very odd. There is no industry in Pcola besides the military, which means there are hardly any young go-getters trying to create something new or anything that brings industry here. The median age on this site says 38, but I would argue that most of the young people they are counting are military that moves away after their time. The real age of the population is much older. Most are retired military receiving a fixed income, which means there is no real wealth in this town, which trickles down to the type of businesses being built here.

Best place to live, work and play, hands down - 12/27/2021
I came here to visit and never left! The American Planning Association named downtown Pensacola "Florida's Greatest Place" after a popular vote and Palafox Street was designated one of America's "10 Great Streets." Pensacola has beautiful sugar white beaches as well as 500 years of history and a cultural scene that is top notch. I love to travel the world but Pensacola is where I want to live.

A city on the wrong track. - 10/18/2021
I've lived in Pensacola for 35yrs, I am well travelled. Pensacola has gone down hill and is continuing to go down hill. What was once a slightly backward, but Southern affordable town, has become a borderline cesspool.
The City and County governments are incompetent, we elect people who range from marginal to barely functioning morons. Nothing gets improved here and things are left to languish until they become difficult and expensive to fix. The good ole' boy mentality is still in effect as well.
This is a drinking town with a beach problem, moderation doesn't exist, the people here act like fools when they drink.
Customer service is usually poor, people lack manners, they are semi-lazy.
This area is plagued by people who have no future, have become comfortable, complain a lot, don't want to do anything with their lives, complain a lot, etc. For the most part, the people are trash, even if they have money they are trash.

Lived in Pensacola 6 years almost 7.
Pensacola has gone to crap there’s just no question about it. You can see what people’s priorities and interests are just by looking at the kinds of shops /stores there are because it indicates what the demand is for certain items or services.
So take this into account:
It’s near beaches but not really any
1. decent dive shops
2. kayak rentals
3. pro fishing gear places
4. Surf shops
5. Good tours
If you like keeping in shape there are no real gyms that offer anything like tennis, or racquetball or indoor pool area like you have in other cities. The ones that are in Pensacola are outdated.
There are however plenty of these:
1. Tons of tattoo shops everywhere (a lot of times the parking lots there are full, if you see the way people in Pensacola look you will know why. Not uncommon to see people with face tattoos and females with ghetto

Pensacola is Full of Everything Beach Living - 9/26/2021
Pensacola is my hometown. I have lived briefly in other cities and couldn't wait to get home. I lived in Minneapolis (Hated it), Avon Colorado (loved it but couldn't afford it). I've been to almost every state in the US but Penaacola is home. We have the most beautiful beaches and nightlife.. downtown is clean, historical and there is always a festival, concert, or something happening. We have a small town feeling but maybe it's because being so involved in everything in my town allowed me to get to know so many people. About the homeless problem.. yes, we do have it but the entire country does. Those that are bothered by those holding signs are those that have probably never wanted or needed for much. The issue is being dealt with. I have never encountered a hostile sign holder in my lifetime of living here. If the sight of them bothers you.. just don't engage and ride off knowing tonight you sleep with a full belly in a safe home. If you come to our beautiful, laid back beach town,

Just look on Fairfield Dr. All the way up and down. By Wal-Mart on Fairfield and Mobile Hwy. There is a motel where crac kheads stay at and then right across the street from Lowes there is a 24hr laundromat that the crac kheads use as a base to shoot up, and trade and sleep. The area in general is unsafe and dirty. Keep in mind this is just 1 example, all sides of Pensacola have activity like this.
You will see a lot of bicycle traffic between 10PM and 4AM and crac khead bums walking around like zombies. The ones on bicycles usually have backpacks and are likely transporting drug to and from crac khouses in the area. You even see some riding motorized bicycles. You will even see some standing in the corner yelling at traffic and acting aggressive, but no one seems to even care.
