Do not move here! - 3/31/2024
I've lived here for 9 years and this is not a good place to live. I've been to 46 states and 4 countries.

While people tout the nature, the water is for the most part dead having been polluted by the factories in the area. (I was a water analyst for NOAA testing the water in the area.) My husband goes fishing and he's never caught a fish at all. Apparently it has something to do with the locks on the canal as well as the pollution.

Employment : The unemployment is way higher than is claimed (closer to 20% not 5.8%) and your only main options are fast food or working medical or being in the military or working at the paper plant or the nuclear power plant though they will only hire military. I've seen a higher amount of people on disability here than anyone else (it's over 14% for under 65) and for whatever reason no one has a car. And since we don't have a very good public transportation system, well, no one gets anywhere. I've never seen a more Read More

Stay far far away - 3/31/2021
Richmond County is a cesspool with a greedy racist mayor. The demographics have certainly changed over the years and is now a liberal Democrat hell hole. The Augusta National (home of the Masters) is planning on developing their own "complex" including entrances/exits out of the city to HIDE the **** hole Washington Road and plethora of criminals, homeless and meth heads over taking the city. If you are WHITE or ASIAN plan on being discriminated against on a regular basis with no where to turn. (The entire local government including the sheriff are black democrats) . A large percentage of the population is obese and mentally incompetent to fight for their city. Augusta will be another Detroit soon enough as the MAYOR is in bed with radicals such as Keisha Bottoms and Stacy Abrams who are out to destroy GA and the economy. If you have any sense you will leave this city and let them destroy it at will. It does not help to get locally involved....everyone has sold out to the Read More

Love Augusta! - 3/1/2020
Augusta is a wonderful place to live. To be honest, people who have negative things to say have NOT made the effort to explore all the beauty. We have a gorgeous lake and river for recreation; a thriving restaurant scene with some of the best chefs/local cuisine (and my job involves intensive travel, and I feel pretty confident after spending significant time in EVERY state!). We have a strong community of people passionate about making our city better. Is it perfect? No. Does it still need some development? Absolutely. But there are people working DAILY to build a strong community, restore our historic downtown, and create relationship. I'm proud to live in a city where citizens feel so strongly about making it better, and every year I see improvement and Read More

Augusta Georgia is a dump - 8/15/2019
This town is a real dump. Crime is much worse than what is reported here. My house was broken into three times last year, my car at least three times. Each time it took over an hour for the police to arrive to investigate. Amazingly no one was ever caught. If I could afford to move I certainly would. I am just waiting to retire so I can get out of this dump. Its nickname is disgusta. Read More

Love this place! - 7/7/2018
The cost of living here is amazing, and the variety of food options and community events continue to grow. Downtown Augusta is going through a revitalization phase with the centralized growth of cybersecurity jobs in the area, fueled by the local NSA and Army facilities. An average income here will put you in a top school district and a large new home minutes away from the Read More

Considering moving here - 12/8/2016
Hi all,
My husband and I are considering moving here to start our family and put down roots, but it seems like many people have negative things to say about it. Is it really all that bad? Maybe the people who come on to a site like this are those who have something to complain about...
We are wondering about the schools, the neighborhoods, employment for people with master's degrees and phds, and crime/functioning of the city. Any information you could give would be very helpful. Read More

You Get What You Pay For - 1/3/2013
I guess if there is one positive thing to say about Augusta is that it is very affordable. Housing in incredibly cheap... but beware.. you get what you pay for. There is a reason why Augusta is so cheap: people don't want to live there! It's the basic principle of economics: supply and demand. In fact, despite the cheap prices, the population of Augusta has been stagnant for nearly 20 years.
Maybe this is why:
1. Crime is very high. For a medium sized city, the crime in Augusta rivals that of much bigger cities and certain parts of town appear to have been completely taken over by gangs.
2. Schools are awful. If you have to live in Augusta, you better be able to afford private school (so you see even though housing is cheap, you pay in other ways). There are a few magnet schools which are touted by all of the local so-called leaders, but they are not representative of the system as a whole, and getting into one is like winning the lottery, and even they are average Read More

Show me the way out! - 2/17/2011
In 12/08 I had the opportunity to relocate from my home to what I lovingly call "DISgusta" Georgia. I have never made a worse mistake in my life and cannot wait too escape. The socio-economic climate here is absolutely terrible. It seems in many ways they are still fighting the civil war. There are two classes of people here, the very rich and everybody else. And there is A LOT more everybody else. Unemployment is sky rocketing here and subsequently so is the crime rate. The town is filthy and littered with run down and abandoned buildings, factories, homes, and schools. The level of education here is...well let's just say far less then adequate. The streets are in terrible condition and traffic patterns are not conducive to allowing quick conveyence by any means. The general attitude of the populace seems to be 'When I hold out my hand, you put something in it because you owe me." I was unfortunately unable to do much research prior to moving here. I came for a short visit too find a Read More
