Not a bad place - 5/14/2006
I feel sorry for the person who referred to Augusta as 'Disgusta'. They probably never had the chance to visit and acquaint themselves with the rest of the city and its surroundings. I know exactly where the Medical College of Georgia is located at and to put it nicely, Yes, if you stayed only in that area (10 blocks square appx.) it would seem like a boring place. But get out drive around! Visit Martinez and Evans (you won't know when you leave Augusta and enter the other cities; its all grown together). Head for North Augusta where a majority of the upper-class reside (again, a short five-minute drive across the state line GA/SC). There's plenty to see and do in this great place. I like it here a lot - 3/29/2006
Augusta has a lot to offer, including a nice symphony, opera, ballet, a decent nightlife (although it is not Atlanta...hey, maybe that is a big plus!). The minor league baseball team is owned by Cal Ripken, Jr., and the Masters is quite prestigious. Plenty of manufacturing diversity here and a great medical community. Good retail, and new town centers being Read More

More like Disgusta - 2/22/2006
I had the misfortune of being stuck in Disgusta during medical school about years ago. It was one of the most depressing places I have ever lived in my entire life. The city is devoid of culture. The locals consider Red Lobster and Applebees to be "fine dining." Ethnic cuisine, aside from soulfood and bad Tex-Mex ,is nearly nonexistant. The downtown is practically abandoned and looks like the set of some post apocalyptic zombie movie. For the most part the people are very uneducated and xenophobic. For someone who is of Asian descent, I did not feel very welcomed. There are very few, if any, nightlife spots for young educated single professionals. For a small city, the crime is very high. The economy is in the toilet, where job growth depends on the opening of a new fast food restaurant or Wal-mart. The humidity during the summer is unbearable as well as this horrible stench from a paper mill. All in all, the city Read More
