Thoughts on Jasper - 6/23/2014
We moved here from central coast California about 6 years ago, for family reasons. I have a love hate deal going with Jasper. Some years no snow, last year we got snowed in for 5 days with two heavy snow and ice storms. Every year the weather is different, so you can't count on anything---I'm an avid gardener, so it's frustrating. Biting flies, mosquitoes, chiggers you name it, there are bugs here and some of them quite large!! Gorgeous birds, frustrating squirrels, tons of turkeys, deer and wildlife with an occassional bear. The weather is only nice in spring and summer. Spring bringing torrential downpours that knock over all the blooms and tomato plants. I mean it dummps to where I have to almost pull over. Summer is very humid, but better than south of us. Gorgeous dogwood blooms and beautiful fall color. A few nice festivals in fall. A short season farmer's market that's OK. A whole lot of Republican churchy people that unfortunately have to mention Jesus when you're Read More

Beautiful area if you like rustic and evolving. Unfortunately, it suffers from the same things that North Georgia tends to suffer from. Meth Heads and thieves. They like to break in to places. Especially "all them thar new fancy smancy places them thar city folks are buildin'".

Like Moths to a flame. Check out the crime stats. Anywhere there is economic improvement/housing, there is a disproportionate amount of crime. Usually break-ins, assaults, larceny. They don't tend to kill each other but they will fight when they get duuuurunkkkkk....and don't listen to that "well, that's everywhere"....it may be but the numbers are staggering for such a post card community.

The police need to start cracking heads and down on their relatives and clean the crap up and THEN Jasper would be an awesome place to live. Put the dirt bikes away and "hey ya'll watch this" attitude and you might be fine.

As new money comes in it will continue to flush Read More

Living in Jasper, Georgia - 10/4/2008
If you want a quiet, rural place to retire to and still be a short driving distance to a national transportation hub, then Jasper, Ga. might be the place for you.

Jasper has shopping facilities, schools, doctors, a hospital, community centers and alot of caring people; and is located about 70 miles north of Atlanta, where you can hop on a plane and go just about anywhere in the world.

Located in the mountains of North Georgia, Jasper's climate is temperate--not too hot in Summer and not too cold in Winter. It rarely gets above 90 degrees in Summer; and the few times it snows in Winter, it is usually just short flurries. Springtime brings out the blossoms of dogwood, mountain laurel, azalea, and rhododendron; and the Fall season is ablaze with spectacular Read More

A great town but getting to expensive - 5/2/2008
I love Jasper and have lived here 28 years but we are considering a move in the near future. The cost of living and the cost of buying a home here plus the taxes are just getting out of control. We have had a burst of growth the last several years and everyone that is wanting to getting out of Atlanta to come to a small town has caused the traffic to become the worst it's ever been, we have liquor stores and drug stores on every corner but we don't even have a Wal Mart! We are stuck between being a large city and a small Read More
