As the capital and largest city of Idaho, Boise City has garnered a lot of attention as a desirable place to live. With its vibrant downtown, outdoor recreation opportunities, and affordable cost of living, it's no surprise that many people have chosen to call this city their home. However, as with any place, there are always varying opinions from those who have experienced living there. Let's take a look at what some users have to say about living in Boise City.

From , JohnB shares his positive experience, stating "Boise is a great place to live! The people are friendly, the city is clean, and there is always something to do." Similarly, user, KatieM, raves about the city's outdoor activities, writing "I love the access to hiking, biking, and skiing. There's always something to do, no matter what season it is." On the other hand, some reviewers have expressed concerns about the city's growth. MaryC from says, "Boise has grown tremendously in the past few years and it's starting to feel crowded. Traffic and housing prices have increased, making it less affordable." Boise much nicer than Denver... if you're not a dr - 7/3/2006
I lived in Denver for 5 years and hated it. Chronic traffc congestion, visible air quality problems, over-development of the city and mountains, influx of illegals, increasing crime, and also rated the "drunkest city in the U.S." I couldn't stand the place.
Boise is such a comfortable place to live. I rarely curse traffic anymore. The air quality has improved my respiratory problems. I feel perfectly safe walking around town at night, and I don't have to worry about sleeping with the windows open. I can't believe any of these posters would be foolish enough to move to Boise expecting to find a vibrant nightlife. It is not a major metropolitan area!!! It is the perfect combination of city and small town. I don't care for nightclubs or wild parties, but I've never had any trouble finding anything interesting to do at night. There is always something going on downtown if you're not looking to simply get drunk.
Wages are a bit lower than in larger cities. I took a Read More

Boise-not suppose to be a big city....response to - 6/22/2006
Just wanted to say that I visited the area last year and was very impressed. I have lived in Dallas, DC, Ft.Lauderdale, Evansville, IN, Chicago, Montgomery, AL, New Orleans, Jackson, MS...and am now 30 years old. Boise's residents were very hospitable and friendly. The city was clean, plenty to do outdoors, and a lot of dining and shopping options, especially for city it's size. Where I live now is Denver. We have the exact same chain stores every ten miles, with horrific crime and traffic. The downtown scene is alright. Not bad. But, don't come to Boise expecting a nightlife like New Orleans and a singles life like Miami. Boise is not a huge metro area. What Boise did not have is a massive crime problem, outrageous prices, pollution, etc...Just a further point, I moved to Col. Springs and was told that finding a descent date would be difficult to find...not only was that not true, I realized that the person who told me that had a problem getting dates, let alone quality ones. I have Read More

Mixed Bag - 6/15/2006
I lived in Boise 10 years and moved to the Denver area 2 years ago. I like it much better in Denver. I spent most of my 20's and first part of my 30's in Boise. While statistics indicate the education level is high with college education the degrees are predominantly from Univ. of Idaho or BSU. It's kind of an inbred thing - the area needs more diversity and more ideas in business, education, government, and the social fabric. BSU is essentially a four year Jr. college - its strongest programs are nursing and education. I wouldn't (and didn't) get an advanced degree there - that's why I moved to Denver. I completely agree with a previous poster that it would be a great place to live being married. Being single there was not fun. Intelligent conversations and single, intelligent females without kids were scarce. Lots of single moms. The Boise pattern for 20-30 year olds is to marry young, have a couple kids, get divorced, and start college when you're 30. People are into Read More

Can someone tell me about the park systems, and if people are big into bike riding.....! Haven't visited yet, so looking for greenways, nice parks, lots of trees and grass and some rivers and streams. Not sure if I need to look into the Northern part of Idaho or the southern part yet....? What parts are prettier, as far as NOT Read More

Boise and all the Treasure Valley is a wonderful place to live!
As a Real estate agent I see the Treasure Valley growing a lot! The Real Estate market is still really strong ompare to the rest of the USA, which is declining.

It's a great place to be other than the gas prices ( where it's everywhere so high, Read More

Great place, but not for single professionals in t - 4/28/2006
Boise is great if you are married, but if you are looking for a vibrant single professional community over the age of 29, you might want to consider a bigger city. I found the single professional community in Boise to be either young, outdoorsy granola types, or divorced people with kids. There seemed to be very few thirtysomething single professionals. Boise's single professional community is also very male dominated due to all the engineers & scientists relocated there by large high tech employers in the area. Single professional women in their thirties might want to give it a Read More

Boise - 4/25/2006
Boise is like a suburb of a big city. But the problem is there is no big city. The growth in that area has been so fast that the cities have had no time to catch up. The traffic is horrible. The school systems are overwhelmed. The teacher's act like they hate their job's. The student are way behind academically in comparison to the rest of the united states. I think Boise is a great place to live if your LDS (Morman)if your not don't ever expect to have social neighbors. Boise at times can be very boring. It needs some new attractions. If you love the outdoors you are in luck. Just head up to Cascade (2 hours away) for some mountain views and Read More

does'nt show up on radar - 4/23/2006
Boise is a nice city, great to drive in, very clean, however it has a hyper- aggressive police force that brings out a hammer and a slew of squad cars when only one is needed, and some proper people skills. It also does'nt help that the overwhelming religon in the area is Mormon, with their very strict& unflexible beliefs. Also "right to work" = Poverty, as this area has some of the lowest hourly wages in the country. Like I said, certain things don't show up on radar, and these things really detract from this Read More

East Coast to Boise ID in the mid 90's and we have - 4/19/2006
We picked up and move to the City of Trees in Bose Idaho in the mid 90's.
The area is a great place to raise our 4 children and the cost of living is very reasonable overall. I am in real estate and my wife is an RN with the Boise VA Hospital. If you need any information concerning this area drop me a line, I'll be glad to assist you any way I can.
