A few questions for senior relocating if possible - 12/21/2022
I’ve read so many positives. I’d be moving as a senior, probably into a senior community. My two questions 1) summer fires. How bad is the smoke, and are there parts of the county not as bad? 2) I come from a medica.lcannabi.s state, and use it for edible medicine at night. I’ve read here there are many mj.users in the area, so how often are they giving felonies to closeted at home only users? Wish it was a mmj state because this was common medicine before liquor lobbies got a hold of the lawmakers. Read More

Looking For Info About Pocatello - 3/21/2018
I don't have a review. I actually have some questions. I read about the low cost of living in Pocatello. I am on disability and have an income of 952.00 a month. Is there a Section 8 voucher program in Pocatello? Is there a long waiting list? I have ADHD and Aspergers, and I'm just looking for a quiet town where people leave you alone. Also, public transportation is important. And, hopefully, some helpful social services, like medicaid. Some place where I can get a low-rent but decent apartment, with affordable utilities and groceries. Finding a nice, clean, modern, safe, quiet apartment with on-site laundry facilities, near public transportation, at a very low rent is my main priority. I am quiet person, I don't drink or do drugs, I'm just very introverted and would like to live somewhere where I wouldn't have to worry about being bullied or intimidated by aggressive people. I read that there is a large LDS population in Pocatello, and even though I'm not LDS myself, I am Read More

Not bad, but not great - 4/26/2017
Okay, I'm laughing at the people who posted there being a lot of diversity here in Pocatello because they may not have lived any place else except a really small town or only been to ISU. I'm from the southeastern part of the US were there are much larger black communities , even integrated, and this really doesn't have the same culture or size comparison. But it is starting to develop. However predominate white population with a fair mix of Mexican, and native american, growing middle eastern mostly college students, and a few Asians.
I've lived in Pocatello for about 10 years, and a few other smaller places in Idaho for a total of 17 years.

Pro's-
low crime rate
great place to raise a family
more places to shop and see compared to really small rural areas.
a college that supports the technical & medical professions
down to earth
homes are less expensive
community assistance
low taxes
a few annual eventsRead More

I like Pocatello - 11/23/2014
I grew up as a Jew in Pocatello, graduating from high school in 1965. While were a distinct minority in a 40% LDS (Mormon) town, I didn't feel any particular religious prejudice. Pocatello was then a small town with many of the benefits of an urban area - because the diverse faculty of Idaho State University drew in international and national level entertainment and demanded high quality education for their families. While there are fewer minorities throughout the West, Pocatello happened (happens?) to have a significant black population because it was the place where railway porters changed their shifts. They were/are well integrated into the community with a black high school contemporary of my sister serving as mayor for a number of years.

I haven't lived in Pocatello for over 40 years, and I understand that an inclux of right-wing haters from California has increased tension levels - but I remember Poky as a great place to grow up and my parents lived there Read More

weakness - 2/21/2014
i have lived in pocatello most of my life worked for the union pacfic for 17 years until they closed up and walked away. since then pocatello has just become weaker. jobs here have been poor and lacking for 25 years. this is a great town. but it is squandering the potential that it has to ecome a great city. i have went in business one business been in 17 years and it has only been a part time thing because the real estate source could make it lot easier but when money is involved it is more important job market here is very very weak. so we start another business but the weakness of pocatello is making that hard to.the city and county goverment are just to small to make a difference. the state needs to get it's head out of it,s ass and help pocatello become the excellent city it was 30 years ago Read More

Wonderful Place to Live - 9/29/2010
We lived in Pocatello for 3 years, attended college there(great place with not too many students), lots of outdoor things to do, housing market (rental or ownership) was very nice, lots of city parks where kids still get out and play and walk to elementary school. Summers were great (no mosquitoes) and I didn't mind the snow. The ONLY reason we left was the job Read More
