Can't afford to live with property taxes - 6/27/2008
We have lived in this area for 15 years. Over that time, property taxes have continually increased (today $11,000 annually for a $325,000 home). Now as we start to plan for retirement, we find that we can no longer afford to live in our existing house, even though the house is virtually paid off, because of the high (and continuing to increase) property taxes.

We are approaching retirement age. As we review our current situation, we find that we are going to have to sell our home and relocate - because we cannot afford the property taxes (which increase every year) on a fixed retirement income. Taxes continue to increase based upon the growth of new homes, driving up the assessed value of homes.
