Think Twice before moving to the Quad Cities (Bett - 5/26/2006
Having lived in Moline for over 30 years, I can say that I can't WAIT to relocate. While some may say that the residents are friendly, these individuals are usually visiting the area and don't live here full-time. Most people I deal with on a daily basis are rude and inconsiderate. Education is not valued whatsoever. For those that do pursue a college degree, they leave the area in droves because their education is seen as a detriment to many employers. Thus, the remainder of the community comprises largely of older retirees and young, uneducated men and women who take low-paying positions and thus, have a hard time living in the area. We have continued drives for school supplies, hats, coats, toys, food, etc. as people simply can't survive on the minimum wage positions that are the bulk of the job opportunities in this area. Pros and Cons - 5/5/2006
Wonderfully friendly people, but basic. Don't expect frills as this is a manufacturing and farming area of the country. Very down to earth mentality. However, the people have all grown up here and are not so clannish as you would think they would be. Warm people for sure. Will help you. Cons are that the economy is no so hot. If you have a job or business to bring here, you will do well as the cost of living here is dirt low. Great place to raise kids. All in all, a great area with lots of things to do (amazingly so), lots of nature to see (deer, every color of squirrel, a wide variety of birds, etc.) and a warm, kind and simple environment. Again, tho, don't come looking for a job--come with one or a Read More

Sooo Sorry - 5/5/2006
I have to start by saying that I grew up in Moline... and was very happy to leave it!
My family lives there so I still visit 2x yearly. It's one of those unfortunate places that just doesn't have anything going for it. The only concilation may be time. There's nothing to do but try to master something- guitar, quilting, archery, researching other places to live...
On the plus side, still some of the best and cheapest antique-ing. I also love the Farm and Fleet!
