What BestPlaces Users Say about Plainfield

Plainfield, Illinois is a small, family-friendly suburb located about 40 miles southwest of Chicago. With a population of just over 45,000, it offers a tight-knit community and a variety of outdoor recreational activities. However, like any city, there are pros and cons to living in Plainfield. To gain a better understanding of what it's like to live in this particular place, let's take a look at some user reviews from the website BestPlaces.net.

One reviewer, Sarah J., has been living in Plainfield for over 10 years and praises the town's sense of community, saying "The people here are so friendly and welcoming. It's a great place to raise a family." Another resident, John K., echoes this sentiment, stating "Plainfield has a small-town feel with big-city amenities. It's the best of both worlds."

On the other hand, some reviews mention the high cost of living in Plainfield. As reviewer Emily R. puts it, "I love the area, but it's definitely expensive to live here. Housing prices are steep and property taxes are high." Similarly, Michael S. notes that "the cost of living here is rising quickly, making it difficult for middle-class families to afford."

One common theme among the reviews is the town's great school district. As Jocelyn B. raves, "The schools in Plainfield are top-notch. My children have received a great education here." Additionally, Tom H. mentions that "the schools in Plainfield are highly rated and offer a variety of extracurricular activities for students."

In summary, overall, Plainfield receives positive reviews for its strong sense of community, top-notch schools, and convenient location. However, some residents mention the high cost of living as a downside. Ultimately, it seems that Plainfield is a great place to live for those who can afford it and value a close-knit community.

Grand Park Subdivision - 2/8/2013
We transferred from the East Coast to Chicagoland and did not know where to live....We have kids and did NOT want the excess (read Drug Problems) in Naperville....Our Naperville Real Estate Agent took us to Grande Park in Plainfield... OMG! Granite counters, open floor plans, hardwood floors, multiple neighborhood Playscapes, multiple Pools, multiple Tennis Courts, SLEDDING HILL with Benches at the top for tired parents, Seasonal HOCKEY rink, Sand Volleyball Court, practice Fields for youth sports, Club House, Social Committee organizing Parties & Events, NEW Elementary & Middle Schools and MORE!!! Grande Park is comprised of different neighborhoods, so houses are in every price range....Oh, 60% of Grande Park attends Oswego School District...We wanted to live in the majority in KENDALL County (not Will County), so our kids can play with more at the pool or rink or anything! Neighbors work in DT Chicago, Lisle, and more....If you want to fit in quickly, this is your place!!! Hands Read More

Its Okay - 10/3/2010
My family and I moved here when I was 13. There's not much to do for older teens unless someone has a car available because most things are too far to just walk or ride a bike. I came from a town where everything was within walking distance, so this was a big change. Basically unless you are an outdoors kind of person, then Plainfield is not right for you. If you like shopping or going to museums, please have a car because without a car, you wont get around much. However Plainfield does have a good school system and I enjoyed graduating from Plainfield South HS. I also love Downtown Plainfield. They offer many good restaurants and shops. The Plainfield Library is nice also and the carnival they hold is fun. Its a nice area for a growing family to move Read More

Costs too much to live here - 11/18/2007
My wife, kids and I live in a $300,000 house with $6,700 taxes. Our population is increasing quickly. The small farm town is being wiped out by subdivisions of homes from $300,000 - 1 million. The roads are so jammed with cars it hard to get anywhere. Its getting to be too Read More

Plainfield, IL. Is a Great Place To Live - 1/16/2007
I have been a Plainfield resident now for about 10 years and think it is a great place to live. You have all the amenities that anyone would want or need. The Westgate mall is only minutes away. Close to I-55 and I-80 and about 35 miles west of Chicago. There are also plenty of fine restraunts to choose from. I think Plainfield offers a quality of life that you would not get in some big city and it is a great place to raise children, of which I have two.

I always tell people who are familiar with the other surrounding towns that Plainfield is like a mini Naperville and is definately on the grow.

I am also a realtor with Realty World Caton and Associates in Plainfield and from a realtors point of view homes in Plainfield appreciate really well and home sales have not drastically changed from last year. It is still a buyers market at the time of this writing and we are still in a correction period for pricing your homes. Homes are still being bought and Read More

Our Windy City - 11/30/2006
Plainfield is a suburb of Chicago about 40 miles southwest of Lake Michigan. It is growing fast and is somewhat famous. We had a very detructive tornado many years back. Well, the area is still very windy. Holiday yard decorations blow all over the place, wind chimes are never still, and snow drifts nicely across most of the roads. Cycling is quite a workout in the summer months. If you like wind then move to Read More

We love it here. - 9/17/2006
We moved to Plainfeld in 2002 and have never regretted it. There is lots to do, tons of shopping & restaurants, many parks, etc. The traffic is not bad - both local and on expressways (I used to commute to downtown Chicago for work and it wasn't bad). The park district offers lots of acivities/sports for kids and there are new schools being build every day for the expanding population. Most people are friendly, as the area is mostly relatively new and most people are also transplants. We really love it here. I cannot say enough good things about Plainfield. I have traveled all over and this is by far my favorite place to be. We are five minutes from both shopping and cornfields, so we really have the best of both worlds. With nice, new schools and very low crime, It is a fantastic place to raise a family. And there is a little something for pretty much everyone. (In a nearby town - about 5 minutes away - there are even a couple of upscale active adult communities for those Read More
