2019 in Yorkville Illinois - Still HOME for us - 9/23/2019
Love this cute town. Lived here 13 years now. Kids attended elementary through high school. Great schools, kind teachers that truly care about the kids success. Property taxes high but wouldn’t choose any other suburb west if Chicago. Truly a great and safe place to live. Example, forgot to shut my garage one night and nothing happened, no theft or break in the house. Not a perfect place to live but good for a family to raise their kids. Also, it’s very accepting of other ethnicities, and friendly people that truly make Yorkville Illinois a great place to call home. Read More

moving out - 9/24/2013
Yorkville has continued it's downward spiral over this last year. I'm actually thankful we never bought a house here, because now it will be alot easier to move away. The amount of lowlifes that have moved into this town over the last year is almost astonishing. there must be some kind of government program to move these people in, because we can barely afford to live here with good jobs. Daily i see grown men wandering the streets, no cars no jobs, where did they come from all of a sudden. Our kids school actually failed governmental standards for reading and math. The crime has soared and many more businesses have closed. I just wanted a nice small town to raise my kids. Yorkville is not for me or my family, we are moving Read More

A nice town ruined by growth. - 8/17/2013
I moved to Yorkville in 1988 from Naperville as I wanted to get away from the nightmare my hometown had become. Yorkville was a charming little farm town with a population of 1,800 people. I bought a 100 year old house and faded happily into the woodwork. There was no crime here then, you could leave your house/car unlocked and we seldom removed the keys from the car ignition. Then came the building boom in the 2000's and all the people who moved here for that country feel. Problem is they brought all their social problems with them (gangs, thieves, ghetto cruisers etc.). Several Sec 8 housing developments have made the crime rate skyrocket, foreclosures galore, rentals are very expensive: $1,000 mo for apt and $1,300 mo for a house. I've lived here for 25 years and as soon as I'm able, I'm out of here, what a dump this place has Read More

3 years later, i have to agree with bill. yorkville is going downhill. at first it was a very nice town but the economy has taken it's toll visisbly. there have been at least 4 restaurants we used to go to close down. there have been no new shops in town but more than a few have gone out of business. cash for gold places are popping up everywhere and also boot camps.

when i look at realty listings almost every commercial propterty is for sale or foreclosing. so that portion of living in yorkville has gotten worse. the housing is just unaffordable because of property taxes. we have been trying to buy a house here for 3 years. we have never found a house we liked that had property taxes we were willing to pay. the taxes in yorkville are just too high.

the waterpark raging waves is still epic. our family loves the summer at the waterpark. this year we have noticed it is much more crowded. in the local paper 2 guys were arrested this summer for video Read More

Bristol Bay Yorkville Il - 8/5/2012
We have lived in Bristol Bay (Yorkville) for about 5yrs now. It started out as a nice place to live but as the housing market crashed, the amount of crime (peeping toms, stabbings, boom boom cars and kids peeping in the pool) has increased to the limit that we are leaving. There is not a night that Yorkville Police are not called in this area. The taxes are WAY HIGH mostly for the school system but they have to be. There are 5-6 kids living in one bedroom condos that flood the school system. Sec 8 housing arrived a couple yrs ago and it took a HUGH inpact on this nice neighborhood. People can't leave fast enough but most are stuck. Read More

nice place to live - 7/28/2009
i've been living in yorkville for 2 years now. we have 2 young children. the economy here is good it's easy to find a job. i feel the housing is over priced, but that is coming down lately to be more reasonable. the taxes are too high. it's about an hour from chicago, so the weather is just what you would expect from this area, long cold winters, short hot summers. people are friendly. parents are very involved in school activities. the schools are good and not overcrowded, with caring teachers. the shopping and dining, could be better, but is improving quickly. the town has lots of activities all year round. if you are looking for a town close to chicago. yorkville is much nicer than some of the other towns i have lived in around here, aurora-too much crime and bad schools gang problems, montgomery-nothing to do, naperville-overcrowded schools way overpriced homes, wheaton-snobby, lisle, elgin, too "city" for my taste. i like a small town feel/look with farms but close to city Read More
