Fort Wayne, Indiana is a city located in the northeastern region of the state and is the second largest city in Indiana. It has a diverse population of approximately 270,000 residents and is known for its strong economy, affordable cost of living, and vibrant arts and culture scene. However, like any city, there are varying opinions and experiences of those who live there. After looking through several user reviews on Bestplaces.net, it is clear that many individuals have positive things to say about living in Fort Wayne, while others have some criticisms. Overall, the majority of reviews highlight the sense of community and the city's family-friendly atmosphere.

Similarly, "Jason" shares, "I moved to Fort Wayne for a job opportunity and have been pleasantly surprised by the friendly and welcoming community. It's a great place to call home."

However, there are also some negative reviews, such as one from "Mary" who says, "I've lived in Fort Wayne for 10 years and have found it to be a bit boring. There's not much to do in terms of entertainment and the winters can be brutal." Another user, "John," echoes this sentiment saying, "I've lived in larger cities before and Fort Wayne just doesn't compare. It lacks diversity and cultural events."

Despite these criticisms, the majority of reviews on Bestplaces.net are positive, with many praising the city's low crime rate and affordable housing. User "Sarah" shares, "I've lived in Fort Wayne my whole life and have never felt unsafe. The cost of living is unbeatable and there's always something fun to do, especially during the summers."

Overall, it seems that Fort Wayne offers a comfortable and welcoming environment for individuals and families to call home. While some may find it lacking in certain areas, the sense of community and affordable living are consistently highlighted by users as some of the best aspects of living in this city.

18 years and glad to be gone! - 9/1/2007
I lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana for 18 years. Life is not exciting and it is not terribly boring. Fort Wayne is very under-developed! For the amount of intelligence, amount of people, and big city options (broadway shows, musicians, grand art, many colleges, huge library, great healthcare, etc.) we have nothing to show for it. We have nothing downtown to show for at all. No shopping centers around that area. We have so much development on the outside of that area, it's no wonder that it hasn't been abandoned. The city is trying to catch up, but so far, anyone who is single and between the ages of 16-35, you're going to be bored after one week. Especially in the fall and winter. Outside of a going to high school games, the two malls, plenty of bars/pubs and restuarants, oh, and a church on every corner, you'll finish touring the whole area in one full week or less. Indianapolis, though people will always argue, is much more ahead of the Read More

Not bad, not good - 8/2/2007
The good stuff:
Traffic is excellent, with a crosstown commute taking 30 minutes or less at rush hour. Housing costs are low. There are some things for kids to do, the Children's Zoo is particularly good.

IPFW (the IU PU branch campus here) is improving dramatically. They have been moving away from a community college atmosphere to a more traditional 4 year college.

The neutral stuff:
The weather is pretty typical of the midwest. It gets cold in the winter, it gets hot in the summer, and it's very pleasant in the spring and fall. Sure, there are long stretches when it stays cloudy in the winter, but that's the midwest and it's just like that. If you have dreams of building a wind farm to generate power, think of this area...

Education varies dramatically based on your location in the city. If you live in the far NE or SW corners, you will be sending your children to some fine schools (those located around Snider HS and Read More

Taxes are high, housing is fair, education is only as good as the part of town you live in. Wages are low, and prospects even lower. What was once a booming town, has lost most of it's high paying jobs which have been replaced with service related Read More

I've lived here for 3 years, and I wish and I've had enough of Fort Wayne. I've made some good friends here. They are much more flexible about weather and economic opportunties than I am. I had never gone for days without seeing the sun until I moved here. When I was here for my job interview, I was waiting in an empty office for the interview team. Looking out accross the office area, I noticed everyone was looking outside. More people kept casually wandering to the window and just staring. Finally a few of those people came into the room where I was waiting and apologized for making me wait. I asked what had happened outside that drew everyone's attention. "Oh, the sun was shining! Its beautiful outside." I wish I would have listened closer.

Oh yeah, the clouds...three weeks at a time with no sunshine. You will never guess how much you can hate wind. The wind blows all the time. All the landscaping trees are either tethered, or they lean from the wind Read More

If you want to gain a new appreciation for about anywhere else in the world, live in Fort Wayne. Former swamp lands that was founded by "Mad" Anthony Wayne, (he was crazy from Malria), Fort Wayne is a wonderful place to live if you enjoy crime and real life murder mysteries (43 murders in one year is our record), enjoy counting up the number of lost jobs per year(several thousand and counting), and love the gloom and cold of absoultly sunless winters (40 days a year straight without sunshine). In fact it is a great place to live because you can save money by not having to buy sunglasses or worry about skin cancer. In fact if you missed visting the Berlin wall before it came crashing down last century, you can come and visit the great interstate wall of Fort Wayne along Interstate 69, (yes our interstate is named after an adult activity). We have a beautiful tall grey wall that borders our highway, perfectly blocking all businesses from view and leaving residental areas all open to the Read More

Fort Wayne is a dump - 3/20/2006
If you are considering moving to Fort Wayne DON'T!! If you are moving only because of family (number one reason for moving here) buy them a plane ticket instead! My parents moved us here back in 1986 because Michigan was in a depression (Michigan economy varies, recession or depression depends on how good things are) I have seen first hand how badly this area has slipped in the past twenty years. This area is so focused on manufacturing and those jobs have gone overseas. Its amazing how many hundreds of jobs are lost in a year. Also the crime rate is incredibly high! This city is mid-sized and the record year for murder was 43. This year the murder rate is already at five or six. There is a big drug trade in the city. We are a stopping point for the Detroit drug run. The local media likes to tote this place as a "great place to raise a family" its not. The Fort Wayne community school district is poor at best. We do have fantasic school buildings, but the tax money goes to Read More
