Visit don't stay - 3/19/2007
I've lived in New Orleans for over 20 years and as a single woman I contiually find that not only do the locals lack a certain level of morals but the city also attracts some serious low lifes. I guess it is because it is touted as a party city. The quality of life, especially now, after Katrina is poorer than ever. It was bad before but now it's horrible. Because it has a very small middle class, you find people willing to do anything for financial gain. Because the political climate, small town poltics, is the way of life here if you have something to offer then you are in. Because the educational system has been crippled for decades, you have few people with problem solving skills and comprehension skills.
What's really interesting is that most natives have a lot of pride. I'm not sure why. The city is dirty and poorly

Born and raised in the "LOWER 9TH WARD." I haved lived in 4 other major cities and let me tell you that not one of them can match the Food, Culture, Entertainment, History of "THE BIG EASY." In the aftermath of Katrina, the city is in total chaos. However, this city will come back to be the "ENTERTAINMENT CAPITOL OF THE WORLD." I now live in southern california. Thanks to Katrina. We will be back in a "BIG EASY

walkin to new orleans.... - 7/20/2006
i love new orleans. she's my lifeblood. the best thing about her is that 90% of the nation's population couldn't understand her, or wouldn't care to. that's what makes her so special for those who do. but that's also why she's going to be so hard to rebuild.
i love her though. more than anything.

I guess it is a love learned - 7/12/2006
I read all of these comments and must say that I disagree with these people's perception of "quality of life." I would hate to live in one of these straight laced cities that shuts down at 11pm. There is always something to do in this city no matter what time. I'm not much of a drinker or partier but I do love being able to hear live music every night of the week. We are not just talking about one or two venues and genres. I will agree that the school system needs a complete overhaul and the major politicians are absolute crooks. (My last mayorial vote was for the lesser of two evils, then again I can't say that my last presidential vote was any different.) New Orleans is not for everyone and this is why we have suburbs. The areas outside New Orleans (Metairie, Destrehan, Laplace, Mandeville, etc...) can be just as "white bread" and boring as any other God fearing community. All in all New Orleans just like her food has a flavor of its own. Some can handle the spice and some

got imagination? - 6/19/2006
Leave as quickly as possible. Awful place to raise children. Bad roads, high crime, high divorce, high veneral disease, low police moral, public schools, low wages, low respect for experienced professionals, high auto insurance, etc. Gotta "know" someone in order to get yours. Business attitude is "I've got mine and whats in it for me if I help you". The business newspaper has even profiled a workers comp. plaintiffs law firm. In 9 months this gov. still hasn't the guts to formulate and implement a plan for recovery. Prople need to get on with there lives and should do it elsewhere ASAP. I left here for 18 years, returned 7 yrs. ago, and am planning my exit stage left booboo! Try Charlotte,
