If you can afford MA, there are better locations - 10/1/2021
I've had the privilege to live in many places across the US in several states. Fitchburg is easily the worst place I have lived, by far. To find it, drive west on the Union Turnpike until you see a lot of garbage on the side of the road; that's the Fitchburg exit.
Most of the people here are awesome, don't get me wrong. But compared to anywhere else in the US there is a high percentage of selfish #@&!-bags. People throw garbage out the window while driving. Vaccination rates are low. I've been in four traffic accidents (all ruled not my fault, get a dash cam) because some people do weird things like pass in the bike lane. While again, most people are awesome and friendly, a quick look at the local social media shows most posts are conspiracies, trolls, and security footage to identify break-ins. I've never seen so many people who thrive on conflict and drama, and the rest are tired of dealing with them.
As for the town itself: much of it is in disrepair. The roads Read More

First off, Fitchburg is not a bad place to live. If you want an urban feel with a country setting this is a great place. If you don't like new england winters, bad place.

It has a great deal of conveniences and the cost of real estate is much more affordable than surrounding towns and areas. With that said, its still part of Taxachussetts.

There are some very rough neighborhoods and some beautiful ones. Fitchburg is like a bowl and as you move out from the center, the value of property goes up.

There has been a recent increase in the Spanish population, and as a teacher, I know that is difficult for many people to handle the rapid change in culture. Doesn't matter where you live, some people will disappoint you, but others may surprise you in a wonderful way.

I teach in Fitchburg, I live in Fitchburg, and I enjoy Fitchburg. Its a beautiful city, with lots to offer and a great cultural backing. Its not for everyone, and my biggest Read More

Not a place I would ever live again - 8/29/2009
I agree with Brian's assessment in another review. I lived in Leominster, just over the Fitchburg line, and spent a lot of time in both towns. The living was expensive, both cities unattractive and booooring! Not much to do. I lived in the area for 10 years and couldn't wait to get Read More

Worst place in MA to live as described by a local - 10/8/2007
Massachusetts as a whole is not a good place to live unless money is not an issue for you. It's very expensive here. Fitchburg is no exception even though it's very slummy and full of drugs and crime and apt bldgs that are falling apart. The rents here are crazy. As a single parent I find myself paying 1400 a month for a mold infested 3 bedroom apt in a city that is considered to be inexpensive. It's unfortunate people have to live like this. I'm finally leaving MA as soon as I can find a decent place to move Read More
