Only thing good about Detroit are the Pistons! - 1/28/2006
I grew up in Detroit (on Grandriver and Wyoming ---what used to be a great neighborhood) and my family moved out in 1974 to the thumb area because they were afraid to send us to highschool (we are white). I can remember going to Bob-lo, tiger stadium, ethnic festivals, Hudson's, etc. every weekend -- there was always something to do. Unfortunately the surrounding neighborhoods (like ours) has turned into rat-infested, drug and crime-ridden hell-holes. Detroit is not the place to raise a family!!! But, being a Detroiter, I still love the Read More

About Detroit hell naw!!!! - 1/7/2006
Well I was born in Detroit stay for 20 years back in the day it was o.k. it had its problems. What the other writers saying is so true you can not walk alone if you are a woman or even a man the beggers crack heads etc... The crime is out of contol when I visit in 2004 my car got stolen right on Chrysler drive in the downtown area. Than when I was younger on the west side of detroit it was riduclous always something going on. On the political aspect Mayors that serve Detroit rob it blind and use the city for their own endeavors my husband got rob while coming home from the post office in downtown Detroit. I strongly advise anybody not raise a family there or your children might be in gangs, rape, addicted to drugs, and become prostitutes etc anything goes I live there all my life I got rape 3 times during my growing up years. It is hardly no jobs the agencies thats funny Ha Ha Ha they don't even want to help you they think it is their right to give it to you or not. Than the jobs are Read More

insiders perspective - 1/3/2006
I lived in Detroit until i was about 7 when it became too much. I lived in the city where where there are thriving gangs, and lost of crime. I literally used to live next door to a crack house, even though we lived in what was considered a better part of detroit. My mother finally decided to move us to the suburbs when a loval boy, about 14 was beaten to death with chains because he didn't want to join a local gang. Gunshots were heard regularly on my block. The police were a joke. You could be bleeding to death in the streets, and on a good day, the cops may be there in a half hour. On a bad day, they may not show up at all. There are big drug and prostitution problems, and many of the people who live in the inner city seem to have mental health Read More

Be realistic!!! - 12/4/2005
Detroit is an old, dingy, ultra-high crime city. Nobody has any right saying that Detroit is a nice place. See the comment "Don't move to Detroit," it gives a sattiracal, but realistic potrayal of Detroit, at least East and Central Detroit. Listen to the people who grew up there, not the creative class, happy-go-lucky people living in their downtown lofts. The fact is, if you walk through the worst part of any city in America, chances are, nothing will happen. Its that in just certain areas its much more likely, Detroit is one of those. One good thing about Detroit, you can easily tell the really bad neighborhoods just by looking at them, signaled by the collapsing, half burnt down houses and entire streets of abandoned buildings and houses Read More

3rd world city - 12/2/2005
Its sad that American cities are turning 3rd world. People need to support their brothers in labor and think about this crisis the next time you start up your Hyundai! It was not long ago that Detroit was one of the most richest, prosperous metropolitan areas on the planet. Now with cheap foreign labor most of the good jobs have gone elsewhere and we are left with the unemployment, poverty and crime. Our quality of life is dwindling, are middle class, almost non-existent. We`Americans have been cutting are own throats for decades....blah blah blah enuff of my rambling but you get the Read More

OH BALONEY!!!!! - 11/29/2005
Detroit has itys problems like many big cities, but the stuff I'm reading here borders on slander. Someone saying you'll find dead bodies etc.. Its a poor big city with its great points and areas needing improvement. I see people of all shapes sizes and colors walking around in downtown every weekend night by the hundreds and thousands having a great time. I cant help but suspect that some of the bashing is racially motivated. Been in Detroit for 50 years and have witnessed only 1 or 2 violent crimes in person. Not Utopia, but not as bad as these people would Read More
