I am so honored and thankful that I was born and raised in America, and that I have the freedoms and liberties bestowed upon its citizens.

In the Upper Peninsula, I had an extensive support network including three sets of grandparents—two blood relatives and my adopted stepmom's family.

At the summer cottage, the Ferguson clan got to do some fun & exciting activities such as fishing, swimming, sailing, and nighttime campfire gatherings. During the winter, we went snowmobiling.

I am not a native of Escanaba, however I have lived in many different areas. I found Escanaba's climate in relation to Michigan as pretty moderate. The housing is affordable. The people of Escanaba were very warm and welcoming when I moved here. It was easy to meet and make friends compared to other areas I have lived. Crime is low and it is a safe area and good place to raise your kids. I love the people and geography of the area. There are things to do culturally, but it not as available as bigger areas. One must stay open to the opportunities of the area. The unemployment rate is horrible but we are in very bad employment situation nation wide. I would not want to live any where else.Read More

If you like cold and ice, this is a good place for you. Five months of winter and nothing to do but go to the bar or ice fishing. Maybe that has something to do with the high rates of alcoholism and domestic Read More

Escanaba, MI is located in the lower cenral part of the Upper Peninsular of Michigan. The area we live in is called the "banana belt", is located on Little Bay de Noc, a small bay on Lake Michigan. The weather is pleasant in the summer with temperatures between the low 70's to low 80's. There is usually a cool breeze, keeping the daytime high temperatures very comfortable. Very few homes have central air conditing, because our summers are from the end of June to the middle of September. Our winters vary from 15-25 inces of snow a year, compared to the upper part of the Upper Peninsular which averages between 50-65 inches of snow a year. The winter of 2008 was unusually cold and snowy. People that have lived here most of their lives said it was the worst winter in the past 11 years. So, be prepared for anything, that's why we are called the "banana belt". Overall, Escanaba (with an approximate population of 12,500.00)is a very beautiful area which definately has distinctive Read More
