Gaylord Is NOT For Everyone! - 4/8/2016
Gaylord is not for everyone, whether you have money or not. The Winters are very rough and very cold. The Summers are pristine however, but the water is still cold most of the year. I suggest someone who has money to buy a vacation home up here for seasonal purposes, and don't make this a permanent residence unless you really like the cold and shoveling lots of snow. For the poor community, it is very rough and hard to make it here. Jobs are limited and are only available to those who knows somebody. It's a very political town, and is ran by a few families who have ownership of the gas stations and other businesses. My advice would be to move to a warmer climate like S. Carolina, Georgia or Florida. The cost of living may be lower in Gaylord, but the lack of jobs doesn't help at all. Most people in the area are poverty-stricken and are government-assistance reliant. The town itself is less to be desired (coming from a very wealthy city in the Southwest myself). A lot of old buildings Read More

Not sure what the actual rate is but it is so safe where we live that we rarely lock our doors to our house and cars. We are not the only ones! We have lots of friends and family who are the same. The economy is not that great right now but I would move anywhere just for more money=more Read More

The Wonderful Gaylord, MI!! - 4/17/2008
I have been living in Gaylord, Michigan for nearly 15 years now and I personally think it is an amazing area! Gaylord is a tourist town and in the Winter the population increases dramatically with snowmobilers. In the Summer, golfers. The cost of living here is affordable, however the jobs here are limited. Over the last 5 or so years, two major companies closed down and close to 500 people lost their jobs. Over the years I have lived here, I have not once heard of any violent crimes, other than break-ins and theft. You will find that anywhere, though! Everyone here is very friendly and people seem to keep to themselves. Of course it is a smaller town, everyone seems to know everyone which can be good or not so good. The school system here is one of the best. I personally loved my years while in school and hope one day my children can attend them. Gaylord is a wonderful place to raise a family if you like smaller towns. There is not so much to do here, though. We have one state park Read More
