I love this place. - 6/6/2018
It has a very home town feeling. You feel safe walking down the street. People still smile and acknowledge you. We lived there for 3 years. We thoroughly enjoyed it the people are so friendly. We moved due to job. Otherwise I would have made that are home for the rest of our lives. Lots of fun Lakes. Great fishing, hunting, hiking and you can drive your four wheelers on the road as long as you're not on the highway. I can't say enough good it definitely outweighs any Read More

Hastings/Barry County is the hidden gem of the Midwest. Dense pine forests, beautiful lakes, wildlife...turkey, deer, horses, can be seen while driving along the backroads. Yankee Springs State Park has camping, beaches, and trails that provide hours of family fun. Pierce Creek Institute has beautiful paths and friendly informative events for kids and adults. Cute shops, such as Al Fresco, and fabulous dining, such as Walldorff Brewery, provide hungry travelers with many options for lunch and dinner. A quick coffee at State Grounds before a stroll on the Thornapple River bridge. Ice-Cream at the fountain or a movie at the quaint town cinema is always an option for a lazy day. A drive to the edge of town to Charlton Park, turn-of-the-century historic village never disappoints. It is impossible to be bored in Read More

Somewhat quiet town in outskirts... - 8/8/2007
it's somewhat nice, it's expanding with Super Walmart and Meijers moving nearby town within the next few years.(Good for minimum wage workers). Although since it has been expanding the crime rate is going up, right now it's not that bad though, if you live in the outskirts.
Lakes are all around within 15 mile radius.
Somewhat diverse community.
Property taxes are up, and the jobs are allright, although most of the companys around Hastings go on the "good ol' boy" arrangement of advancement. So if you're looking to move up in your career or make a larger income, as all the other people that are looking to move outa here, you would have to work somewhere else.
As Michigans economy is losing in the manufacturing arena, the white collar jobs are moving in per-Governer Granholms plan.
Hastings has Summerfest, winter festival, sidewalk sales, jazz festivals, etc. lots of parades throughout the year. Lots of candy!! Its very family friendly. Read More
