Great city - 6/20/2012
Lake Orion, like many Michigan cities has a lot of beauty to it, obviously including the lakes, which there are several big and many small. I grew up here and if I wasn't curious about living somewhere else, I wouldn't be looking to move! Where living is a vacation - 12/28/2011
We moved here from Ky 2 years ago. I absolutely love it, and outside of a job transfer, will never leave. The schools are exceptional, some of the highest test scores in the state. Downtown is full of kid friendly events, all year round. The lighted Christmas parade and the fireworks over the lake for 4th of July are two of my daughters favorites. The weather in Michigan is great, with all 4 seasons. There is a really low crime rate in Lake Orion, low enough that (until our dog passed) we didn't even lock our doors. Close to major malls, lot of restaurants, and other amenities, that I find I never really need to travel for anything at all. There is a wonderful miniature golf just down the street, an ice cream stand, the childrens park, complete with a stream full of ducks, and cider mills very close by as well. Great Place to Live! - 9/28/2007
We moved to Lake Orion three years ago from California and have been really pleased with this area. The people are very friendly and have embraced us well. Lake Orion is located in Oakland County, which happens to be one of the top five most expensive counties to live in nationwide. We expected everything to be less expensive than Califonia and the only thing that is significantly less is housing and gas. Although buying a house, we feel you get a lot of house and property for what you're paying.
As far as child friendly, I fear that when we move we will not live anywhere that is as child friendly as this area. The schools are all Blue Ribbon, the public library is fully stocked, and there is always something to do. There are pleanty of museums around and other fun activities that go on all year to take children to. I love Lake Orion because of the opportunities it affords my children.
