Great Place to Live!

We moved to Lake Orion three years ago from California and have been really pleased with this area. The people are very friendly and have embraced us well. Lake Orion is located in Oakland County, which happens to be one of the top five most expensive counties to live in nationwide. We expected everything to be less expensive than Califonia and the only thing that is significantly less is housing and gas. Although buying a house, we feel you get a lot of house and property for what you're paying.
As far as child friendly, I fear that when we move we will not live anywhere that is as child friendly as this area. The schools are all Blue Ribbon, the public library is fully stocked, and there is always something to do. There are pleanty of museums around and other fun activities that go on all year to take children to. I love Lake Orion because of the opportunities it affords my children.
We also enjoy the seasons and it is beautiful and green all summer and the fall is just gorgeous. We have been disappointed that we have not seen as much snow in the winter as we would like, instead the winter weather is a bit crazy. On day it could be 10 degrees and the next day it could be 40, but only in the winter is it that extreme. A lot of people here don't like the extreme weather changes but they're not so bad. Also, Everywhere we drive there are small lake and some larger lakes. Great for boating, skiing, beaching, and fishing in the summer or ice skating and ice fishing in the winter.
Shopping and entertainment is convienent. Lake Orion is only about a thirty to fourty minute drive to Detroit, but is only a five to ten miniute drive to a great mall, shopping, restaurants, movies, and many other things. We have everything we need within a five mile radus.
Life in Lake Orion is a little slower that were we came from, there is not much traffic, commuting hour is an hour, unlike traffic in CA, very family oriented lifestyle and very enjoyable. After living in a town like Lake Orion I couldn't even imagine going back to a place like Califonia. Lake Orion is "Where living is a Vacation".
