Petoskey is Our Kind of Town - 2/19/2022
The people in Petoskey are generally pleasant, friendly, and courteous .... even the teenagers in our experience. Petoskey is certainly a physically attractive area in the summer, but of course, that is when the summer people arrive, and things get much busier and more crowded. But that gives Petoskey the vibrant feeling of a much larger town than it is. North Central Michigan College offers learning opportunities for all ages at a reasonable cost. The Bayview Community brings in nationally recognized speakers and offers many other cultural opportunities to everyone. Nearby Bay Harbor now has a performing arts center. Petoskey has a great public library and just across the street is The Crooked Tree Arts Center. The downtown shopping and restaurants and brew pubs are great. However, there is at least one out-of-town developer who is always trying to bring in a downtown development with high buildings that would change the small downtown feeling of Petoskey .... and also cause Read More

Favorite Part of Michigan - 3/28/2021
Petoskey, between Harbor Springs and Charlevoix, is in a trio of small northern Lower Michigan towns that exceeds the charm and sophistication of typical small towns. Ferry and rail service from Chicago in the last century gave the area an edge that complements its scenic beauty. I have lived and traveled widely, including many years in Washington State. This area reminds me me of Washington’s San Juan Islands, and contributes to my feeling home Read More

Best place we have lived - 12/17/2019
My husband and I have lived in Petoskey for 8 years. We have lived in Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Virginia and Ohio and by far, Petoskey is our favorite place to live. We don't need to go on vacation for we feel like we are at our destination place almost every day. We are surrounded by beautiful crystal clear inland lakes, 2 miles from Lake Michigan, several preserves where we can go hiking and a paved bike trail with the best views of Lake Michigan. If you love mountain biking and skiing, Petoskey is the place for you. Hunters and fishermen love the area too. Cross country skiing, and showshoeing is what we do in the winter and we have several areas close by to choose from. You really cannot beat the outdoor activities here. We also love the quaint town of Petoskey. Each year, improvements are made to the town. We have one of the best bay front parks in Michigan that is free and open to the public with a beach, a breakwall that many like to jump off or fish from, a biking Read More

Petoskey = Heroin for kids - 7/4/2017
I grew up in Petoskey. We had our first child here. Let's just say under no circumstances would we have stayed had my mom not been sick. We did plan to move right after the wedding, but things happen. Let us fast forward 15 years and we are still here. In the end, I feel my own FAMILY SUFFERED BY Staying. A large majority of the children are addicted to heroin. You my ASK YOURSELF WHY, as it is so beautiful and certainly lots to do (so it looks.) Remember, moat businesses are CLOSED for the winter. Just go down to the county clerks office, look at how many kids die from heroin in one year. Autopsies are public and when you see how bad heroin has hit this town you just may RETHINK moving here with a family. My kids LUCKILY did not get into it, but probably because we have a very strong family unit and family is everything, even before religion in our home. The town really lacks in the arts and they are on their way to NO ARTS IN SCHOOLS. If the majority of the town votes the music Read More

Not a desirable place to live!!! - 3/6/2011
The summer months are "pretty", but thats' it! The housing is over-priced everywhere here all year, & alot of the restaurants,(and stores) close until the summer months! Downtown Petoskey has alot of vacant stores until summer...very depressing, as well as the large "hole" in the town that isn't filled yet! Do not get sick on a week-end as the hospital is very under-staffed, & there aren't even any 24 hr. pharmacies, so you are forced to go to the hospital if you need a drug. The hospital staff has been extremely rude when we had to go, & we didn't feel the nurses & Docs. were very professional. We cannot wait to move! The water-quality has very high minerals which make your glassware white,& needless to say the horrible build-up in your hair! Petoskey is above the 45th parallel & the sun rarely shines from October-May!
This town is also very lacking in the Arts, as they only have ONE Art show all year...how sad. We will be moving soon down-state where there is more Read More
