Research, research, research! Personal reviews don't give you the "whole" story! Whether the opinions are "glowing" or scathing do not base your opinion on them! Some opinions are based on only the opinion of the writer. You need proof and facts. Brainerd is a town of less than 20,000 people. After about a year of living here everyone knows you and you know everyone. They don't call it the "Brainerd Lakes area" for nothing. You'd have access to almost every lake in Minnesota. You'll expect high traffic, both on foot and in cars during tourist season. The town is all about hospitality because most of the industry relies on tourism to make a living. During the summer 75% of the Twin City area residents are in Crow Wing and Atkin Counties or on vacation there. Your job will be to keep it beautiful, comfortable and safe. No work - 12/5/2011
Small town. Everyone knows everyone else's business. No work. Located in Crow Wing County and has highest unemployment rate in the state. Poor healthcare. Essentia Health is a catholic healthcare system that sees no need to provide reproductive services such as coverage of birth control, vasectomy, or tubal ligation as part of its benefit package. The doctors that are here are not very good- husband and son misdiagnosed on three occasions. Very misogynist atmosphere- professional women (doctors and nurses) tend to leave as soon as their contracts are up. Pay for women is not on par with male counterparts-even at the professional level. Hate it here, can't sell the house in order to relocate- if you know what the term Mans Land means that pretty much sums it Read More

Great Living - 6/12/2008
I lived in Brainerd/Baxter (Gull Lake)2003-2006 (Army Assignment). It is a very beutiful place, clean, many pine trees, lakes and good hospitality of the people. Good variety of stores for shopping, Target, new Super Walmart, Harley-Davidson shop, plenty of lodging, good restaurants, International Ice Fishing contest, International Raceway, Motorcycle ralley. Fishing, Ice Fishing, Four Wheelers & snowmobiles are a big deal here. Good Schools, low crime, not too hot summers. Winter can be rough, particually February temps of -40 are very common.
