What has happened to Clarksdale - 1/26/2013
I grew up in Clarksdale and moved out of state my junior year of high school. My family had been in and around the area for generations. It is sad to see what has happened to the city, it breaks my heart to visit. It has gone from a beautiful, family oriented, tradional, southern town to a crime infested, run down, ghetto. The safe and nice neighborhoods are just memories. I am sure for a northerner to come visit it is probably an experience and almost like visiting another country. However, for someone who grew up there and has great memories of living there, to visit now is just a heartbreaking experience that only depresses and saddens me. Read More

visiting the birthplace of the blues - 8/17/2009
I'm from California and I loved funky Clarksdale. The folks there are so friendly and curious about where you're from, what you do, and what you think of Clarksdale. They also love to talk about the blues. We danced and danced at Ground Zero, a hotspot there. The music was just amazing. It's also a big center for folk art. We ate well in Clarksdale, but the place is decidedly not environmentally conscious, which was a shock to us Northern Californians, who typically feast on fantastic organic fruits and vegetables most days.
