Info from a Vicksburg native - 4/28/2018
I was born and raised in Vicksburg. I left for a town 25 miles south in 2015. Vicksburg was a great city when I was coming up. However, in the past 15 to so years, it has really changed. For the worse imo. Crime has def risen. Also, schools not the best. If I were planning on coming to MS, I would look other places for sure. ( Lived there for 46 years) in fact, we are in process of planning an out of state move in next couple years. Hope this helps.  Read More

Vicksburg - a dirty little town - 1/4/2010
My son was attacked by two teenage thugs when he stopped in Vicksburg to do some laundry, find something to eat and recharge batteries for his electronics. Jake, my son, is doing a loop of the entire eastern half of the United States in his kayak. He started on the Wisconsin River on December 6th. It wasn't until he got to Dixie that things started to "go south" (funny, now I see where that saying really came from)... In New Madrid someone decided to steal half of his kayaking gear. Bad, but not life threatening... When Jake got to Vicksburg he was attacked with pepper spray and the proprioters of a 7/11 store wouldn't let themselves be bothered to offer him any help! He had to be taken by ambulance to a local hospital to be treated after he blindly called 911 by himself!!!

I did some checking and I found that Vicksburg has a very very high crime rate. Vicksburg's crime rate in a city of 26,000 people is 3 times that of the entire Wausau, Wisconsin crime rate - a Read More

I am Black and I grew up in Vicksburg. I live in Florida now for over 15 yrs. I visit Vicksburg often. My family was not on welfare therefore your statement is false, Karen. Blacks have always resided in Vicksburg. Blacks do not have the funds to go out of the country to get drugs. Powerful White men bring them for Blacks and Whites to sale. Karen you need to find Jesus so that you can stop hating. It looks like you want to find someone you can look down on to take out your frustrations. You must be a very lonely lady. If you hate Blacks, Mexican and whoever-get ready you will see Blacks, Whites, Mexican in other races in hell. Without love you are certainly destined for Hell. Jesus said without love you can not be with Him in Heaven. Vicksburg is a great place to live. Blacks and Whites get along well. Of course, you will have people who hate everywhere. The people are friendly and the city is beautiful. I will pray for you, Karen. God's Read More

The city/county government will not cooperate with one another and despite gaming the school tax rises each year with no visible improvement in the education system. Vicksburg has a very high volume of welfare families, not for the lack of jobs, but due to the lifestyle they were raised to expect. I grew up here and have watched Vicksburg deteriorate in the last 10 years with the influx of Mexicans and Blacks who thrive on welfare and drugs I plan to move upon Read More

What I like about the South is Vicksburg! - 3/23/2006
After living on both Florida coasts and the Florida Keys over a period of nearly 50 years, I can honestly say "I DON'T MISS FLORIDA ONE BIT". I didn't get out because of the hurricanes, I got out because the traffic became unbelieveable, as well as the crime rate, etc. I searched five states, than found Mississippi. Meridian was my first introduction, but I quickly learned about Vicksburg. Being a History buff, I visited, and never left. The City is clean, safe and beautiful. The people are friendly and welcoming. They want you to stay here. Goods and services aren't big city, but this isn't what Vicksburg is. It is a small town with big intelligence and hearts. In my short time here (less than a year) I have made many friends, enjoyed the local "color" and wouldn't leave for anything or anyone. I have never felt so much "at home" as I do here. Lock my house doors? Yes, if I am going away overnight. Lock my car? Yes, if I think of it. The hills, flowering trees, the clean, in Read More
