Boring! - 5/24/2007
Absolutely nothing to do but eat at one of the many chain restaurants or get drunk at one of the many neighborhood strip mall bars on every corner. Nothing original at all in boring Omaha. Everything here has been done before and better in other places. Nothing scenic, nothing really unique. Just a generic city with chain restaurants, strip malls, neighborhoods that all look alike and a "booming downtown" that is very small and easily explored in about an hour. I'm moving to Seattle THANK

Not my cup of tea - 5/14/2007
I could see why Omaha would be a good place if you are looking for somewhere non-threatning to raise your family. However, I am ready to move on after 5 years. I've done everything there is to do here a thousand times over and I'm ready for a beach, a warmer climate or a mountain range. I'm a big outdoors girl and Nebraska in general stinks in that area. Omaha is kind of a big sprawling area with lots of strip malls and cookie-cutter houses. Downtown is okay, but gets old quickly. Some of the midtown areas have nice little communities of progressive thinking, but Omaha is overwhelmingly a conservative, Republican city. People say Omaha has a nice business climate, but the facts are most of these industries are call-center type jobs with little room for growth. Unless you get a big job at ConAgra, Mutual of Omaha, Union Pacific or Kiewit, it's kind of hard to keep moving forward. A lot of things in Omaha seem contrived, they have a thinking of "build it or add it" to the city. I

Omaha is underrated - 5/14/2007
especially by Omahans! We have something for everyone: a downtown pedestrian Old Market filled with eclectic galleries, shops and restaurants, the brand-new Qwest center that attracts acts like Shania Twain, Billy Joel and the Ringling Brothers Circus, and several top-rated universities. We play host to the NCAA college world baseball series, we have our own symphony, our own ballet, award winning programs at the Henry Doorly Zoo, hands-on learning at the Childrens Museum and the Rose Theater, a trails system that runs the entire length of the city, parks galore, and projects planned for so much more. Come visit and you might decide to

Your average suburban city - 5/14/2007
People love to boast and brag about how much Omaha is growing, how great it is, etc. Frankly I don't get it. I was born here and lived here for 18 years before leaving for greener pastures. Omaha, Nebraska is one of the most overrated, ugly, boringest cities I have ever been in. I come home to visit my family and still cringe about it. It is one of those places that is ten steps behind everyone else when it comes to anything.
People say that we have great culture. We have a performing arts center, a community playhouse, the orpheum, the Qwest Center, the Joslyn, the Western Heritage and some other smaller things. It's not that great. It's good for what it is, but much better theatre, museums and concerts can be seen elsewhere.
People say how great the Old Market is. Old Markets are everywhere in this country. Every city has one with different names, and most cities have one that is bigger, better and everything else.
Yes, I'll agree the zoo is

Omaha...I just wish it had some mountains - 2/23/2007
Omaha is a suprisingly cool place for the midwest. IMO, it's much better than Indianapolis in terms of traffic, restaurants, entertainment, etc. I also think it compares pretty favorably to Denver. It's lacking the professional sports teams and mountains, however there plenty of college sports to watch and you can actually drive to the venue on a Friday night in 20 minutes from across the

Nice place to live.... - 1/17/2007
I moved here in 2002 and really enjoy the area. The only drawback is the HIGH taxes. taxes are outrageous here.
Other than that there is a LOT to do, but you don't feel overwhelmed like in a big city.
