Papillion, Nebraska is a small city located in Sarpy County, just south of Omaha. With a population of over 20,000 people, Papillion offers a suburban feel with plenty of parks, restaurants, and highly rated public schools. 1. "Papillion is a great place to raise a family. The schools are top-notch and the community is very friendly and safe. There are plenty of parks and recreational activities for families to enjoy. I've lived here for 10 years and have no plans of leaving anytime soon." - Sarah D.

2. "I moved to Papillion for a job opportunity and have been disappointed with the lack of diversity and cultural activities. It's a very homogenous community and there isn't much to do outside of the typical suburban routine. However, the cost of living is reasonable and the neighborhoods are well-maintained." - Marcus H.

3. "I absolutely love living in Papillion. The downtown area is charming with local shops and restaurants. The community events, like summer concerts and farmers markets, are a great way to get involved and meet people. Plus, the proximity to Omaha offers even more options for entertainment and dining." - Emily R.

4. "I've lived in Papillion my entire life and it's definitely changed over the years. It used to have a small town feel, but now it's getting more crowded and there's a lot more traffic. The schools are still good, but I worry about the development and how it will affect the city in the long run." - John S.

Hot & humid and a great place for high taxes - 8/4/2020
Papillion is a small suburb of Omaha and has low crime, reasonable schools, small town feel (unless you go north into the craziness of Omaha) and is growing by leaps and bounds. Everywhere you drive there are new housing developments and commercial buildings springing up.
Papillion suffers what all of Nebraska suffers: horrid weather and unbelievable tax structures. All types of retired income including a Social Security check is taxed by the state. And the property taxes are horribly high (our home is 5X higher than the taxes for same priced home in WY). Local officials seem to raise appraisal rates by double digits each year.
Summers are hot and humid, winters cold with snow staying on the ground for months, it seems. If you have money and are a foodie, than you can find things to enjoy, or if you have a group that parties together, you can find plenty of places to do that. If you enjoy heavy traffic than you will enjoy the main streets of Papillion and the Read More

Nebraska is not for everyone. - 1/5/2020
I have lived in Papillion Nebraska for twenty years. I live in an older part of town that is annexed and cannot speak to what goes on in the SIDs. I am going to try to make this review fair. Since we have had such an influx in population, I want people to understand what they are getting into.

The Good:
City services in Papillion are outstanding. The snowplows stay on top of clearing streets in the winter and the city maintains the streets during pothole season. It is noticeable when you cross the county line into Omaha how much better maintained the streets are in Papillion. The local government puts significant effort into making sure Papillion is clean and well maintained.

A significant military and professional population are residing in Papillion. Yards and homes are well maintained, people generally take care of themselves and the community. Most people are polite and keep to themselves.

The police department is very visible and Read More

I've lost hope in the human race. - 8/14/2018
I don't like to be negative. I've lived here for 4 years. At the risk of sounding dramatic (because this city really is), it's possibly the worst place in the great midwest that you can ever think about planting your roots. You must watch your back. The folks in this general area (Omaha, Papillion, Bellevue, La Vista) will take advantage of you, your family, and your career first chance they get. Everyone secretly hates each other and are at war with one another but they will *NEVER* admit it. About once a week I get visited by the police for some complaint that surfaced out of thin air about "you had your music too loud for 10 minutes after 10pm", "your car was parked on the street for more than 12 hours", "you are not wearing enough clothes when you mow your lawn" (I am a guy and I wear jogging shorts and no shirt when it's 90+ degrees out, is that a crime?).

These same people will see you in the supermarket and act like they aren't behind it. "Nebraska Nice" I think Read More

Mugginess - 1/1/2010
I'm a New Englander and am considering a move to NE. One factor that I consider important is the mugginess factor. I had visited Research Triangle Park years ago in August and the air was so bad, I stayed in my hotel room for 3 days - in bed. I'm looking for most days of the year to be "breathable".

Is NE breatheable most of the Read More

Great Quality of Life - 1/1/2009
Despite high property and state income taxes, Papillion is a very family friendly place with great neighbors, excellent schools, beautiful parks and trails. Papillion is a growing community with more shopping, restaurants, and entertainment being developed every year. The city is small, about 20,000, but it is a suburb of Omaha and has a decent size airport with access to all the major Read More

Expensive Tax State - 6/25/2006
Nebraska is hellish on taxes, income, property, sales, gas, local including some services. Some old people can't pay their taxes for homes they own and would like to keep, but social security is not enough to live with the tax Read More
