I don't like it here - 11/30/2014
I got stationed at Nellis AFB in North Las Vegas about a year ago, and I have to say that I'm not a fan of this area. So many areas are run down around here and the crime rate is unbelievable. A baby was abducted on a street just around the corner from me and this seemed like a nice neighborhood on the outskirts of North Las Vegas. We're going to try to find a safer neighborhood in this area if that's even possible. Even the nicest neighborhoods in Summerlin aren't safe. A friend lives in a gorgeous neighborhood in Summerlin and her neighbor was robbed at gunpoint, then shot. I have a 6 month old baby girl and I keep asking myself how I'll ever be able to feel comfortable letting her playing outside. Keep in mind that this is the perspective of a 30yo active duty woman who grew up in a small town in western PA and has lived in central NY, Texas and Oahu. I love the outdoors but I love green and I'm not used to these extreme temperatures. I keep hearing that dry heat isn't that bad Read More

North Las Vegas – an upscale neighborhood with low - 3/18/2011
North Las Vegas borders Las Vegas and West Las Vegas. Because of this, oftentimes many crimes are attributed to North Las Vegas but actually occur in either West Las Vegas or Las Vegas proper. This mistake is often made even on the news.

The cost of living in North Las Vegas can be a little expensive because it is filled with mostly private homes and very few apartment buildings. Most of the apartment buildings are located in neighboring areas such as Las Vegas proper or West Las Vegas. But, since it is a buyers’ market the cost of purchasing a home is less than it has been in the past. However, during the housing crisis North Las Vegas experienced fewer foreclosures than most areas in Nevada.

My guess is because most of the homes do not have home owner associations who add exorbitant fees on top of the regular mortgages. The homes are not extravagant but they are beautiful and well maintained by folks who care about their community. You don’t see Read More

Climate - 2/7/2010
The most positive thing about this area is the climate. I find it to be enjoyable most of the time with a great deal of sun to keep you in a positive mood. There are periods of rain which sometimes can be heavy to a flood stage but these periods are sparse and can be dealt with by staying home or by being extra careful in your travels outdoors. It is funny as it can rain in one neighborhood while a few blocks away, in another neighborhood, it will be completely dry. North Las Vegas and Las Vegas proper is in a valley much like Phoenix and will at times have smog without the benefit of a breeze to blow it out. As everywhere else, there are pros and cons of climate here and you learn to live with the cons and emphazise the Read More

Sunny Skies - 9/11/2009
8 of 12 months are livable in Las Vegas. The other four you should have a cabin or second home in a cooler climate. It can feel cold in the winter, but all it takes is a drive north to somewhere else and you realize how mild we have Read More

What's Going on in N. Las Vegas - 5/24/2007
I have only lived in N. Las Vegas for seven months, but have enjoyed all of it. There is so much growth in the area it is amazing. New homes, a new casino, retail, food, apts., community center, schools, etc. The weather is beautiful, blue skies everyday, it does get hot, "but it's a dry heat". Coming from the Midwest, I see a big difference in alot, it's a much faster pace, more people and traffic, but the population is over twice as many, so you would expect that. I love Las Vegas, and know most people only think about the "Strip", but there is a much larger city than just Las Vegas Blvd. and there is a big community of normal people living in it, come and Read More

I currently live in N Las Vegas, NV. The cost of living here is pretty expensive, the housing market is finally slowing down and becoming more of a buyer's market. I am renting as there is no way my husband and I could afford a house. We are military and move quite frequently. Crime is a lot higher than we are accustomed to: shootings, murders, kidnappings, robberies and fatal accidents are a daily happening.

Originally from Las Cruces, NM--one of my favorite places to have lived. Year-round awesome weather, picturesque landscapes, affordable housing, the friendliest people you'll ever meet--the downsides are low-income jobs and less jobs due to the size of the community. If you want to live in a tight-knit community, this is the place. For all those who wish to complain and not help improve where you live--you'll never be happy as long as you look for a handout.

Lived also in Omaha, NE. After leaving, I realized how much I didn't hate it. The Read More
