Reno is a nice town - 11/17/2009
I lived in Reno for 5 years and for the most part loved it.

I am very surprised by the last post that said it’s ugly. The mountains views are quite beautiful and in town the landscaping is green with lots of trees and green grass ect..

I am not sure were the person in the last post hangs out but I did not see many down on your luck" people expect for down town, same goes for Strange, transient people. The last post also said there is no class or culture, again I guess it depends were you hang out and who you hang with.

The weather in Reno is mild year round. I come from Ohio so I know bitter cold .The Weather Channel reports the average day time temp in Jan. is 45 and low of 22. The sun shines all the time so even on cold days if the wind is not blowing it nice out. The winter last from December to March that’s about 4 months. The summer is the best; I almost never had to turn on my AC. The years we lived in Reno the smoke from wildfires Read More

Don't move here! - 10/5/2009
This place is a horrible place to live. It is ugly for starters! We relocated due to my husbands job two years ago. My husband loves the job, but we hate this place! We hate it so much that he is working feverishly to get another promotion, just so someone will pay for us to move out as quickly as we came! Reno is full of "down on your luck" people as a result of gambling, drinking, drugs, etc... Strange, transient people are all around you. Guard your children! I know people make a big deal about the weather... but, I think it stinks! The bitter cold lasts about 6-7 months out of the year. That doesn't count the 50-60 MPH gusts of wind that can hit anytime of the year! What good is the sunny days when you can't enjoy them because of the wind??? Then, just when you start to get some decent weather, the smoke from all the area fires surrounds you! There are some days you can't even go outside because you will breathe the smoke! BIG DEAL that there is no humidity... I have Read More

Reno live where you play - 2/22/2009
We live in Reno, NV. It's a great place to live for families. We are close to Mt. Rose for skiing in the winter and the summers are nice also. There's lots of hiking, fishing and other activities. The kids love all their sports programs and we've made some great friends Read More

A Positive Opinion, For Once - 11/17/2008
PEOPLE
For the most part, people are friendly but keep to themselves. Personally, I prefer this "mind-your-own-business" mentality to the "hello-neighbor-I-noticed-you-got-new-curtains-for-your-bedroom-window."
Most people in Reno are outdoorsy. Almost everyone skis or snowboards. A lot of people enjoy hiking, camping, biking, horseback riding, hunting, and fishing. I'll admit that some people here are just straight up rednecks, but come on, we're out West.
For those that aren't outdoorsy, there are plenty of things to do in town. The casinos always have shows, there are tons of stores, and there's usually some kind of event going on downtown, from the BBQ Cook-Off to marching band parades.
For those who don't like anything or anyone, you can go online and complain on Sperling's Best Places about how much Reno sucks.

So many negatives - 10/19/2008
This city is, next to San Bernardino, the ugliest I have ever lived. Lots of old, poorly maintained buildings, bad roads, graffiti, trash strewn parking lots. There doesn't seem to be a "nice" part of the city, although the southern edges turns into decent country-side. The cost of living is ridiculously high, with the majority of the apartment complexes ugly and run down. High crime, the people are like those in Los Angeles; bored, disinterested, and full of antipathy. Winter hits the second week of October, and freezing temperatures (or far below) last until the end of April. Lots of icy wind from the Sierras. The casino district is gray and ugly, uninviting.
The only benefits are the beauty of the mountains to the West, and Reno's proximity to Tahoe for the outdoors types. Lots of shopping, but not much Read More

Four seasons a plus - 9/27/2008
Reno does have beautiful skies (unpolluted except in freezing winter when everyone is using their fireplaces) and four real seasons. Summer is too hot for me, but dry, so really not horribly uncomfortable heat. Nevada is the most arid state in the continental U.S., so be prepared for the Read More
