Located in Santa Fe county, NM. Retired here from the Air Force. Quick access to Albuquerque (20 min). Climate is mild in the summer, snow melts in a day typically in the winter. Its country but has access to WalMart, Smiths, DQ, McDonalds, Sonic, Dennys, Dominos and Pizza Barn, Tractor Supply, Auto Zone and O'Reileys, Post office, Ford Dealership. Growing fast! A horse park, wildlife zoo, library. Plenty of churches.

Police is City, State and County. Fire is county. Great responses by all agencies since living here since 2010. Lots of schools. Snow removal on public roads is good. Electric is coop. City water is a well. Washing your car can be an adventure as its hard; we have a salt water treatment unit for the household; no issues. Jury duty is in Santa Fe; pretty far @ 70 miles.

Nice and quiet. Crime is low but recommend alarm on house. Zero theft on our property. Everybody is friendly in public areas, but some folks value their privacy Read More

Good neighbors - 8/23/2010
When we moved to the area many years ago, our neighbors came and introduced themselves. For the most part, we have left each other alone since then---unless we or they need help. Then any of our neighbors have not hesitated to be of whatever assistance they could. That's the description of good neighbors. The people are mostly independent natured. People here smile at each other, hold doors for each other (even strangers) and all the other things that used to be considered "common courtesy". But this is the West and questions by strangers which are considered too personal or intrusive are not looked on favorably. Nor are people who ask them. It's a matter of respect for the privacy of others and them for yours. I have never yet approached any person here with a smile and been met with anything but friendliness. It is an honest Read More

Indignant - 11/30/2008
If there was one word to describe Edgewood, NM it would be the word "indignant". It is friendly and welcoming on the surface; churches, schools, community. But if you try to go any deeper than the surface it is a close-knit club of special etiquettes and independents that are not all that keen on outsiders unless you meet some sort of unspoken code. Everyone would just as well like to keep to themselves, or their 'group', and have their privacy than to get involved with new-comers; but if you do like your privacy and attempt to claim it then there is little respect for that as well. If you are looking for 'real' people this is not the place to be or to feel at home. Although there is a claim that this is a community for kids there is little recreation or support for that, and even local businesses like the newspaper frown on you having kids if you intend to acquire employment for fear that it will interfere with your work. I would say that people who don't see this either haven't Read More
