remembering Auburn - 2/11/2012
as a child i grew up on the west side.auburn was a lovely place to grow up.my father worked at a local company called ALCO,a division of white motors.sadly many buisnesses that made auburn what it was(a city of diverse idustry, have all but long gone.the citys neighborhoods were diverse ethnic and cultural conclaves,mom and pop groceries dotted many a steet corner providing ethnic foods groceries and treats.emerson park was always the perfect place to go swimmming,picnic,play and ride the merry go round,watch a ball game or enjoy fireworks displays.down town auburn offered a variety of shopping and was easy to get to by bus.a family bargan center located on cotage st,served the west end.Auburn memorial hospital was in its hay day,it is where i first trained to be a nurse and held my first job.many buisnesses thrived and grew because of the immmigrant population,i remember bowling alleys and soda shops,now when i travel back i see gas stations,pizza parlors and pharmacies.a far cry Read More
