Historical sites - 6/25/2006
In Oswego,NY, The historical sites are very interesting. Fort Ontario was built in 1700's before the revolution war. French, British and United States colonists were used that fort over 200 years...Today,the fort ontario opens to the publics. The other historical sites are in the City of Oswego. In 1800's, The industrials expanded in the city of Oswego by the canals and the Kingston cornstarch factory were running for at least 100 years then the factory shutdown sometime in 1900's and abandoned for years. In the early 1970's, the kingston factory was engulfed and destroyed by the arson. The investgations never found whoever did burn the kingston factory. They saved the kingston bell and settled at the park, in the west Read More

Small town life, small town politics - 5/1/2006
A good place to raise a family. Much of the jobs in the area are from the power plants (they're safe!) and the aluminum facility. There is also a state college and the school district itself is really quite good for a town of its size. There is usually some debate over the teacher salaries being too high, but the students' test scores are above average, and as someone who's come out of the Oswego schools, I would say it is worth Read More

nice place, is resources were better used - 4/26/2006
I agree with the other posters about the job market and some businesses move out. But for the most part, the economy isn't all that bad. The taxes and other fees the city puts on businesses is the main reason most don't stay here. If this community would wake up and just look north.. at that vast lake we have right on our shore... Some kind of tourist attraction or hotels, something. Maybe we'd have a better economy and lower taxes. There are several factory and energy plants in the immediate area that help thru them paying taxes, but we need more to attract potential business and tourism. I've always thought a water park/ amusement industry could really benefit from this area. Or even tours of the historic sites around the county and city. Something has to be done, because this area is rich in untapped resources...

Oswego City, New York - 1/3/2006
Oswego, NY is a nice community with a beautiful view of Lake Ontario. Small town feel where you don't have to be afraid of walking down the street at any time of night or day. The drawback is lack of quality jobs in the entire county. Many communte to Syracuse for employment which is just over 30 miles away. It is a nice place to live, bad place to find a Read More

A kind of sad place - 12/4/2005
Businesses often start up and shut down. Every business looks like it's struggling except Lowe's and maybe Wal-Mart and New York Pizzeria. The schools are poorly run and look like jails. People do not generally look healthy, there more obese people than anywhere I've ever Read More
