Peaceful place to raise a family - 4/4/2013
Just 10 miles south of Rochester, Scottsville offers something between a suburban and small-town lifestyle. To the south lies farmland and forest, including a large woodland park.
Overall, people are friendly and well-meaning. The sense of community isn't overwhelming - because of the suburban feel, you can sort of choose whether or not to have a relationship with neighbors.
The area has a good balance in terms of climate: neither winters nor summers are extremely harsh. January-March can be a little bleak, but spring is beautiful.
The elementary school and middle/high school are both good - they are small, so curricula aren't extensive, but the staff are good and there are a variety of extracurriculars that contribute to a sense of community.
There is very little in town in terms of restaurants, shops, or culture - one cafe, a dollar store, a Chinese place, a diner, pizza joints, a public library, three churches. It's a boring
