What BestPlaces Users Say about Shirley

Shirley, New York is a small town located on the eastern end of Long Island. It has a population of around 30,000 people and offers a suburban feel with a mix of rural charm. The town boasts a variety of parks, beaches, and recreational activities for its residents to enjoy. It also has a diverse community with a mix of families, retirees, and young professionals. However, like any place, Shirley has its own unique set of pros and cons. In this context, I will summarize user reviews from BestPlaces.net to give a better understanding of what it's like to live in this particular town.

According to user reviews on BestPlaces.net, there are mixed opinions about living in Shirley, New York. Some residents praise the small-town charm and friendly community, while others mention the high cost of living and limited job opportunities. One user, John, has been living in Shirley for 10 years and says, "I love the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of this town. It's a great place to raise a family and the people here are very welcoming." On the other hand, another user, Sarah, expresses her frustration with the high housing costs and says, "The cost of living in Shirley is ridiculous. It's almost impossible to find an affordable home, especially for young families and first-time homebuyers."

Another aspect that seems to divide residents is the town's proximity to the beach. Some users love the easy access to the beach and water activities, while others find it to be a nuisance. One user, Emily, states, "I enjoy being able to go to the beach anytime I want. It's a great way to relax and unwind after a long day. Plus, the sunsets here are breathtaking." However, another user, Mark, brings up a valid concern and says, "The beach brings in a lot of tourists, especially during the summer months. This leads to a lot of traffic and parking issues, making it difficult for residents to get around."

Finally, some users mention the lack of diversity and cultural activities in Shirley. One user, Maria, points out, "There's not much to do here in terms of cultural activities. It can get pretty boring, especially for young adults. I wish there were more diverse options for entertainment." On the other hand, user Mike disagrees and says, "I enjoy the small-town feel and the fact that everyone knows each other. It's a tight-knit community, and we have our own unique events and festivals that celebrate our culture and heritage."

In conclusion, the user reviews about living in Shirley, New York, vary, and it's clear that the town has its own set of pros and cons. While some residents enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and community, others struggle with the high cost of living and limited job opportunities. Ultimately, it's important to do thorough research and consider your personal preferences before deciding if Shirley is the right place for you to call home.

You're better off in The Villages - 2/15/2021
Your standard, run-of-the-mill suburb, complete with strip malls and endless suburban sprawl. I suppose it's ideal for well-off retirees, the beach is nice and has plenty of waterfronts for boaters. For the everyday working person and young people, it's not that ideal. Very few job opportunities, terrible infrastructure for growth and high traffic, and little amenities make for a very depressing place. Sadly, that could be said of almost all of Suffolk; unsurprisingly, the vast majority of people I knew growing up here in the area moved out immediately after graduating, or dream of someday moving out. this is a working class neighborhood with a riseing number of young families in the aera. close to the beautyful smithspoint beack on fireisland just a few minutes away. there is plenty of history with the william floyd estate and several old town historical sites nearby.
the draw backs are high taxes leftwing liberal house and senate high utility rates, and corrupt school officials that steal millions of tax dollars and get away with it for decades. then ask for more the next year.
william floyd school district may well be the most corrupt in the nation.

Mass Transit - 10/26/2008
Suffolk County has a bus system that runs until around 6pm daily. You can get to most important places, but be prepared to walk or ride your bike to the nearest bus stop.

The railroad station provides a minimum schedule to and from Manhattan. It is possible to commute from the Shirley station, but I would recommend traveling to Ronkonkoma, which is about 30 minutes west of here.

Overall, I would say it is best to own a car if you're going to live anywhere in Suffolk Read More
