What BestPlaces Users Say about Boone

Boone, North Carolina is a small town located in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is home to Appalachian State University and is known for its outdoor recreational activities. With a population of around 19,000, Boone offers a quaint and close-knit community. However, as with any place, there are varying opinions on what it is like to live there. Let's take a look at some user reviews from BestPlaces.net to gain a better understanding of living in Boone.

According to Sarah H., "Boone is a beautiful town with friendly people and a strong sense of community. The surrounding mountains provide endless opportunities for hiking, skiing, and other outdoor activities. However, the cost of living is quite high and the job market is limited, especially for those with specialized degrees." This review highlights the natural beauty and sense of community in Boone, but also brings attention to the potential challenges of living there.

In contrast, John M. states, "Boone is a great place to live if you value a small-town atmosphere and a slower pace of life. The downtown area has plenty of unique shops and restaurants, and the local events, such as the Appalachian Summer Festival, are always fun. I love the laid-back lifestyle here." This review emphasizes the charm and leisurely lifestyle of Boone, which may appeal to those seeking a more relaxed environment.

On the other hand, Kelly R. shares, "I moved to Boone for college and ended up staying for a few years after graduation. While the natural beauty is breathtaking, I found the town to be quite dull. There isn't much to do here, especially for young professionals. I ended up moving to a bigger city for more job opportunities and a more vibrant nightlife." This review sheds light on the potential lack of opportunities and excitement for those looking for a more fast-paced lifestyle.

Finally, William C. says, "I've lived in Boone my whole life and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. The community is tight-knit and welcoming, the scenery is unbeatable, and there are plenty of outdoor activities to keep you busy. The only downside is the tourist traffic during peak seasons, but it's a small price to pay for living in such a beautiful place." This review showcases the loyalty and love that some long-time residents have for Boone, despite its flaws.

In summary, user reviews on BestPlaces.net give a well-rounded perspective on living in Boone, North Carolina. While the natural beauty, sense of community, and outdoor activities are highly praised, the high cost of living, limited job market, and potential lack of excitement and opportunities may not appeal to everyone. Ultimately, the decision to live in Boone will depend on individual preferences and priorities.

Questions for Residents of Boone - 7/9/2007
I am a young professional guy looking around for a more healthy and friendly place to live than my current home of Phoenix, AZ. I just read about Boone in Outside Magazine. Are there many social and business opportunities in Red Lodge or would I be bored out of my skin? How is the weather? Please give my your thoughts. Thanks!

Boone - Home Sweet Home - 2/26/2007
As a young professional, I know now that Boone was an ideal place to grow up. Appalachian State University provides a stimulating and increasingly sophisticated feel to the town, and the outdoor opportunities are many. Unfortunately the popularity of Boone and ASU has led to hasty and ill-advised development, and soon the pristine mountainsides will be plotted off and sold to those incoming from other parts of the country. It is inevitable, and therefore imperative that it is done wisely so as not to ruin the true value of the area: its history, beauty, and sense of Read More

Beautiful Boone - 8/6/2005
Boone is surrounded by some of the most gorgeous mountain scenery on the entire East coast. Boone itself is a small town, it's heart seems to be built around Appalachain State University, which has a very nice campus. Despite its small size, Boone seems to have a decent economy, which probably relates back to a combination of the University and tourism. Here you're surrounded by a variety of excellent ski locations, some of the best cycling roads in the nation, and an all around stunning view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Nature itself offers so much to do here it's impossible to think of it all and write it in one paragraph. Boone is my favorite mountain getaway destination on the East coast, and second only to the Rockies in Read More
