What BestPlaces Users Say about Charlotte
Background Information:
Charlotte, North Carolina is a bustling city known for its booming economy and southern charm. With a growing population of over 870,000 people, it has become a popular place to live for many individuals and families. However, like any city, it has its pros and cons. Here's what some users have to say about living in Charlotte.
Overall, the majority of user reviews on BestPlaces.net speak highly of living in Charlotte. Many reviewers mention the city's friendly atmosphere and numerous job opportunities. SarahD stated, "Charlotte is a great city to live in. The people are friendly and the job market is thriving." Similarly, JohnK shared, "I moved to Charlotte for work and I have not regretted it. The people here are so welcoming and the job market is diverse."
In terms of cost of living, some users have mixed opinions. While some, like NancyB, appreciate the affordable housing and low taxes, others have found the price of living to be high. As reviewer TimS put it, "Charlotte has a lot going for it, but the cost of living can be a bit steep. It's important to budget wisely and find a good paying job if you want to make it work here."
One aspect that received a lot of attention in the reviews is the weather in Charlotte. Some commenters, like MaryL, love the mild winters and hot summers, saying "I don't mind the heat as long as I have air conditioning." However, others have a different opinion, such as JakeM who wrote, "The summers here are brutal and the winters can be unpredictable. It's something to keep in mind before moving here."
Overall, it seems that most people enjoy living in Charlotte. While there are some concerns about the cost of living and the weather, the overall consensus is that it is a friendly and thriving city with plenty of opportunities. As reviewer StephanieG sums it up, "I've lived in Charlotte for 10 years now and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. It's a great place to call home."

Great city -- good quality of life and variety of - 5/9/2006
Overall, I think Charlotte is a beautiful, clean city. I am 30, have lived here for little over a year, and recently purchased a home in one of the smaller towns just outside of the city (the taxes are lower and lower crime rate...still just 20 minutes from uptown Charlotte!). You do have to work a little harder to find things to do then someplace like NY city (big surprise). However, I always find plenty of cultural events or sporting events to attend. There's the Performing Arts Center, Panthers footbal team, Bobcats basketball team, Wachovia golf tournament, Nascar, opera, museums, Carowinds, a couple of lakes/parks, etc etc. And there are PLENTY of bars to chose from if hanging out is your thing. If you can't find something to do you're just not being creative. Many of the people that complain there is nothing to do limit themselves to their own side of town. This is an easy mistake to make because Charlotte is kind of sectioned off, and each area is pretty independent. On the

Nice city offering good quality of live and variet - 5/9/2006
I am a 30 year old African-American woman, and I disagree with the comment someone made about rebel flags being abundant in Charlotte. Perhaps they drove too far and ended up in some small town an hour outside the city? I have lived in Charlotte for 2 years and recently purchased a home at a GREAT price compared to the equivalent in many NE cities. There are a lot of professional and social opportunities for young professionals. You do have to work a little harder to find things to do, but the city is growing fast. If you're a sports fan, another big plus is the professional football team (Carolina Panthers!), Bobcats basketball team, and there are plenty of Nascar races as Lowes Motor Speedway. There's also the Performing Arts Center, other theaters, the symphony, etc. On the negative side, the city does have a pretty high crime rate. However, you can always live in one of the many 'burbs or smaller towns that are within a 20 minute drive of the City (like Fort Mill, Huntersville,

Wanna move to the "Bible Belt"??? - 5/9/2006
Charlotte is in an excellent location. Thats the best part. This city is so boring. Especially the University area. Schools are beyond overcrowded. Southern hospitality is a myth. Plenty rebel flags here. Still mad about the war. Just want "yankees" to spend their money and go home...back north that is. Want everything in little uptown instead of developing the city. Just cuttin trees and throwin houses up EVERYWHERE else. We'll worry about the roads and congestion later. 80% of the city isn't from here so there is no identity here. Everybody stays home cause there aint much else to do...except go to wal mart. Money comes first here for sure. You cant walk anywhere in any neighborhood...they dont believe in sidewalks. Quality of life is bad. Nice weather though. Hard to meet other singles though. School system is soooo segregated. Just a bunch of phony people here. Bible belt my butt! Everything is getting more expensive. Taxes going up all the time. Now we got

Unless you live in an upper end type of neighborhood, I would not want to live in Charlotte. Way too much crime, bank robberies almost daily.

It ain't so bad - 5/4/2006
I moved to Charlotte mainly for the cost of living. Taxes are a tad high, but not so high as to influence my decision to move here. I find the living very easy. Crime is or isn't on the rise depending on whose rhetoric you're listening to and what neighborhood you live in. I live in the Sheffield Park area and find it friendly, culturally diverse and a quick commute to downtown/uptown Charlotte via car or public transport. As for the crime? It's a city with city issues. One should never let their guard down even if you THINK you live in Mayberry. All that said... do a little research and ask around if you're considering moving here. It isn't for everyone, but it's perfect for
