Small town atmosphere - 6/30/2015
I agree with some of the posts on here saying that Franklin is more than willing to take your money, but it's difficult to fit in if you 'aren't from around here, are you?' mentality. A lot of people that I've met here are nice enough, but they can spot an outsider (esp is you're from the north) a mile away. I got a job a couple of months after moving here with no problem. The treatment I received from most of my co-workers after getting the job was horrible. I am from the north originally and I was treated as a rare specimen. You must talk like a native or they treat you with disdain. I mentioned that I had a meadow in my backyard and someone laughed and said, "You must be from the north..we don't call it a meadow around here..it's a field." Franklin is not for anyone other than natives! - 6/20/2011
Franklin will welcome you if you are a vacationer but move here and it is a whole different story. We are one of those families that would vacation here every year and thought it was a wonderful, friendly small town, a great place to live. They will happily take your money but will not allow you to become a working member of the community. If we could do it all over again, we would definately not spend our money and build a home in Franklin, NC. Our dream we have been saving years for has become more of a Read More

You Either Hate or Love Franklin, NC - 5/31/2010
Franklin is a remote small mountain community located at the far western end of the state just 20 minutes north of the Georgia border. If you are an avid church going Baptist, like a small community, are retired on a fixed income and like to watch the grass grow you will love Franklin. If you are single, need to work, are educated and enjoy cultural events you will hate Franklin. If, God-forbid, you are a Yankee or from Florida, think twice about ever finding work here because they will tell you that they only hire locals here. If you love hiking and mountains, you have found your heaven here. If you love all the conveniences that a city offers, you will not like it here. You will find you will be driving to Asheville every weekend that is a 1.5 hour drive over the mountains. If you enjoy shopping at Wal-mart, Dollar General and thrift stores and your taste in food are for biscuits and gravy, pork products and fast food you will love Franklin. As a Yankee from upstate New Read More
